Pregnancy is supposed to be a wonderful chapter in a woman’s life, the primary bonding time with your new child, a nesting moment when you bloom. But for many, this special moment is hampered with niggles and pains that make life somewhat cumbersome when you’re busy making a baby.
Many pregnant women keep fit and exercise regularly, which can help the straining muscles during their 9 months, but it’s not for everyone. A recent study from Deep Freeze showed that 42 per cent of pregnant women exercise either once or twice a week, 20 per cent of those who who don’t exercise, choose not to due to back pain.
With back pain affecting three out of four mums-to-be and the taking oral painkillers when pregnant being an issue, many mums-to-be end up stopping exercise despite the health benefits.
We asked some B
ritMums Pro bloggers who are no strangers to back pain to discuss their exercise habits and receive samples of drug-free Deep Freeze Pain Relief Cold Patch as part of a sponsored project. They tested the drug-free patches and wrote about their experience on their blogs.
Deep Freeze Pain Relief Cold Patch offers initial, effective drug-free pain relief from muscular back pain during pregnancy (always check new symptoms with your midwife) just like an ice pack, and provides long-lasting cold analgesia to the site of pain. The adhesive patch is applied simply and easily, and can be worn without restricting movement or needing to be replaced frequently to maintain the cooling effect.
What real mums think about Deep Freeze Pain Relief Cold Patches
The relief is instant
“Once I was home I opened up a Deep Freeze Pain Relief Cold Patch…and felt instant relief. My only regret was not taking one with me because I’m sure I would have been able to have continue with our anniversary date.” — Kay, Mummy B
“The great thing about Deep Freeze patches is that they are virtually unnoticeable under your clothes so I could simply pop one on and continue with what I was doing (nothing stops retail therapy, especially when it’s baby related).” — Sarah, Boo Roo and Tigger Too
Adjustable for your life and needs
“What I really loved most was the fact that you can peel them off your back and reposition them so if the pain migrates, you can move them.” — Jaime, The Oliver’s Madhouse
“I popped on a Deep Freeze patch and the relief it gave me was a joy! I seriously could have kissed it! I was able to sit down and chill out without having to wriggle on sofa trying to get comfy. I was also able to cook dinner without needing to get a chair out. I have used the Deep Heat cream and patches in the past but never the Deep Freeze till now. These are something I’m definitely going to keep in the house for the rest of my pregnancy and after! I absolutely love the re-sealable package. It means I can pop them in my bag without worrying the box is going to get damaged.” — Victoria, Mummy to My Little Cheeky Monkey
Cooling sensation good for hot mums-to-be
“I had tried a heat patch before I found these, but with my internal temperature similar to a radiator at the moment, it made for a dreadful night’s sleep. I ended up taking it off after an hour or so. But I can leave the deep freeze patches on all day without a worry. When my back starts to seize up, they really do help relieve it. — Katie, Heels and Hooves
“I saw an immediate difference in the pain level, or at least in the way in which my body was tolerating the pain as the cooling sensation helps me to focus on a sensation other than the pain going on in my back.” — Abigail, Lily Mae Adventures
“When I first applied the patch it felt freezing cold but after a couple of seconds it was comfortable. After a few minutes I could feel the benefit. The cooling patch eased the pain in my lower back and I felt much more comfortable. I had secretly hoped that these patches would provide a miracle cure and I would be taking Sally on long evening walks again. Unfortunately this didn’t happen, but they did provide relief from the horrible ache in my lower back and they have made my evening sitting much more enjoyable!” — Charlotte, The Crumby Mummy
“They’re easy to apply and stick well without being impossible to get off. The sensation of the Deep Freeze starts off quite mild then gets more intense and I quite liked the feel of it. It feels cold, wet and tingly but in a good way. The menthol provides a cooling action to help relieve pain and also decrease blood flow to help minimise damage. Since I first drafted this blog post, I’ve had a few instances of nagging lower back pain, which is difficult to relieve. The patches have definitely been helpful.” — Kate, Organically Sewn, Imperfectly Grown
Works throughout pregnancy
“As I near the end of the second trimester (I’m in week 24 now) I am finding that alternating days and a laze in the bath at the end of the day really do help ease joint pain. The Deep Freeze Pain Relief Cold Patch helps during the day too. All I have to do is pop it on under my clothes to work its magic.” — Chelle, The Mumington Post
Pinpoints specific pain
“…The results were amazing. Instantly I felt a relief, normally my husband has to push the one point in my back that hurts, but [with] the patches…I could move around with no pain. I have had these on every evening since, and have found as mine is a small area of pain which is mainly on my right side, that for me it is easier to cut them in half.” — Stacey, Unicorn Mummy
“When you open the pack you do get a smell of the medication, but it doesn’t transfer to clothes once you cover up the patch. The patch sat comfortably in the middle of my lower back and worked instantly, the relief was in seconds, I was very impressed.” — Rebecca, Wishes and Wellies
You can take it with you
“I found that after the first patch I didn’t always need to apply a second one as the ache had gone, until I started having to run around again. I’ll be adding a stash of these to my bag to keep with me, they are a great drug-free alternative to use during pregnancy and beyond.” — Natalie, Typically Ted
“Now I feel I can do all the things I use to be able to do when pregnant the first time. I just make sure I carry a patch with me just in case.” — Nichole, Mabel and Me
Finally able to relax
“I would completely recommend this to anyone who is suffering from lower back pain or a strained kind of pain anywhere on your back. I’ve found these have really helped me relax a lot more and has taken away some of the pain I am regularly feeling in these last stages of pregnancy.” — Tas, Not My Year Off
If only they lasted longer
“The pouch contains 4 patches and although they have quite a medicated smell, you don’t notice this once the product is applied and under clothing (although they do stay on better if you wrap something around it like a bandage). The patches are a good size and I found them easy to use, although given my discomfort, it is a shame that they don’t last more than a few hours. I would really like a full night’s sleep before the baby arrives.” — Donna, Little Lilypad Co
