Yes, I admit I’m a bit snap happy. I’ve always taken loads of photos. Photos tell a story and I just can’t resist documenting my children’s firsts — first smile, first day of school, first day of being a teenager.
And with the advent of digital cameras and smart phones – I take even more. I like to live in the moment – but also like to look back at memories. It might be a bit of FOMO too, I don’t want to miss out on any photo opportunities.
So here’s my new digital life hack: Try out a SanDisk iXpand Flash Drive so you can take as many photos and videos as you like! (Note: This post is part of a paid campaign with SanDisk).
How SanDisk iXpand Flash Drive helps store memories
Does this scene sound familiar? You’re on holiday with your family. You’ve hiked/walked/biked your way to the local beauty spot, lined up the family for a pic and the MEMORY FULL message flashes your screen. Then you start desperately deleting pics random pics – hoping you don’t accidentally permanently scrub the wrong photo. Meanwhile your family has disbanded, tired of waiting for you, and you missed your perfect opportunity. We’ve all been there.
With the SanDisk iXpand Flash Drive (or the Dual Drive USB Type-C for Android devices) you can easily free up space on your iPhone/iPad by just plugging in this device, which is the same size as a USD drive!
Tried and tested: The SanDisk iXpand Flash Drive experience
I had the perfect opportunity to put it to work. I took the SanDisk iXpand Flash Drive with me this half term to Tenerife. My two younger girls had just finished end-of-year exams and we were ready for some serous R and R.
Easy instructions made it plug and go
It’s easy to set up. The instructions are literally to plug in the drive to your iPhone, download the the iXpand Drive app when prompted, then copy photos/videos to the iXpand Flash Drive! This makes room on your iPhone/iPad so you can take as many photos and videos as you like.
Photos and videos galore
Of course we could take as many photos and videos as we liked. Plus, I didn’t have to keep trying to time when I started shooting a video because I was worried about storage. How many great jumps into the swimming pool and other spontaneous moments have I missed because of that? I was #freetomakememories over the entire half-term trip.
You can watch videos right off the device
Another plus was that we could watch large video files stored on the device without having to download them onto the phone. Right away we could use our memory to watch large video files. You can play large video files direct from the drive Store and watch videos. MP4 and .MOV files are supported in iOS. Obviously, you can’t live stream from Amazon Prime and Netflix.
Backing up existing images and videos is a breeze
The device can also automatically back up photos and videos. Once it’s set up this happens it’s easy to do when you plug it in.
You don’t have to rely on internet connections
Unlike cloud storage, you have access to your photos and videos offline. That’s not only great for viewing when your connection isn’t strong. For some families that could mean easily sharing them with others who either aren’t very techie or who don’t want the faff of getting online, logging onto the cloud, etc. I can see just handing over the iXpand drive to grandparents who can plug it in to their phone and browse the pictures they want.
More reasons to use a SanDisk iXpand Flash Drive
There were several other great things I discovered while using the iXpand drive that I loved:
- It gets away from the annoying iPhone feature (or is it a bug?) that you can’t add memory. Just plug this in and you have more!
- You get peace of mind. Memories are safe and stored, and you know you won’t miss a photo op
- It’s small and portable. It was easy for me to tuck into my pocket, purse or bag
- It comes in 16GB and 128GB sizes
- You don’t need to be connected to the internet to use it — a big issue when travelling and connections can be unreliable!
- It’s well-reviewed by others who have used it. We’ve all bought gizmos that end up being ineffective. But 60% of 500+ Amazon UK customers give it 5 stars
- It’s an easy way to back up pictures and videos without having to do an entire phone backup
So here’s my travel hack: When you are on a family trip where you know you will take lots of pictures and videos and don’t want to worry about running out of memory on your phone, get one of these babies, download the app before you go and keep it handy in your pocket or bag!

What I love most about this device is just how easy it is to use - anyone could do it. I'm already thinking ahead and going to buy some as Christmas gifts for the family this year x
