I have really enjoyed putting together this month’s charity round-up partly because it features bloggers who I am honoured to call online friends. These are some of the bloggers who no matter what challenges they are facing in their own lives will be reaching out to raise awareness and/or funds whilst supporting individuals and families too.
Charity Appeals
Firstly, let’s look at the charities who would like to engage with bloggers on particular issues.
ActionAid would like bloggers to support their #SheCan campaign to see girls escaping poverty and violence.
Barnardos would like bloggers to help them spread the word about their campaign against child sexual exploitation
Little Hearts Matter is a UK charity that provides support and information to children and families when a child is diagnosed with having only half a heart working. They would like bloggers to help them raise awareness of the challenges facing families affected by single ventricle heart disease.
All in a good cause
Firstly, I want to give a big shout out to Rosey who is doing such a great job in raising awareness of post-natal depression via her blog and her regular support sessions on Twitter. As someone who took many months (at least) to see the light after the birth of my daughter, I know Rosey is making a difference all the time (whether she recognises that herself or not)
Kylie explains how her awareness of the importance of charities has developed and encourages up to buy a T-Shirt to support Harrison’s Fund which is hoping to see a cure to Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
One of the loveliest ladies I have found on social media Hannah slept out to raise money for charity. She felt she learned a lot from this experience.
Tamsin is taking on a huge personal challenge by entering the Spartan Sprint. She has EDS hypemobility and is blogging the journey. Sometimes there are difficult days but she has found her own personal trainer in the form of her daughter.
Ellen highlights the work of global charity Plan UK. It works with children in the world’s poorest countries to help them build a better future. She shows how giving up something can enable you to give back. It’s a simple concept and can make such a difference.
I have struggled to choose just one post about the success of Team Honk. How wonderful to see bloggers coming together and taking on challenges in aid of such a great cause. I think Penny’s post is lovely in how it shares the joys and challenges. It also acknowledges her late mum – special mums make amazing daughters.
If you think arthritis only affects older people, read the story of Candace and her daughter. They are taking action to raise awareness and funds. This is a cautionary tale to not dismiss everything as “growing pains”.
The wonder that is Hayley shared information on World Downs Syndrome Awareness Day and hosted a linky to raise awareness. Being Hayley, she did not stop there but went on to raise thousands of pounds for charity.
April is Autism Awareness Month.
Jeanette has a blog that helps us to understand so much about autism. I have highlighted this guest post but would encourage you to take a good look around the whole blog.
I love the simplicity and power in Jo’s poem. It will take you a minute or two to read but really does help get over the joys and challenges of bringing up a child with autism.
What can I do?
