Carnival Cruise Lines finds the UK’s Funnest Family

It must have been one of life’s more enjoyable tasks: searching for the Funnest Family in Britain. Carnival Cruise Lines has been looking for just such a family in a recent competition and now they have found them.

Penny Alexander of the A Residence blog and her family have been named Britain’s Funnest Family by the cruise line and as a result will be tasked with a very fun job indeed: to cruise around and experience Carnival’s Fun 2.0 ships.

“I really didn’t expect to become the Funnest Family,” Penny says. “We might not be the funniest family, but we’ve always prioritised adventures over everything else. My husband once had a personality test and got one of the highest scores the psychologist had ever seen for spontaneity. I’m off the scale the other way, the one tailing behind with a bag stuffed full of snacks and babywipes, but I’ve learnt to be braver.”

Penny’s enthusiasm, sense of humour and her family’s willingness to try new things grabbed the attention of the Carnival team. “Penny also acknowledged how a fun holiday can build strong memories for both parents and children. We really admired her website, particularly the videos and travel stories,” Carnival said.

This year has taken Penny and occasionally her family too to Ghana, Bologna and Camp Bestival. In October they will be cruising the Mediterranean with Carnival Cruise Lines.

Penny says, “What excites us most about cruising is the chance to see the world as a family whilst having the perks of entertainment and childcare as we go. How else could you manage to see Venice, Dubrovnik, Athens, Rome, Naples, Sicily, Naples, Pisa, Marseilles and Barcelona with 4-and a 6-year old in tow?

This week when my daughter had to take a bag of things to school to represent her family life, she took a bag full of trinkets, all from our travels. I realised how important our adventures – and fun — were to us all.”
