Video Round-up: Challenges, bad weather and a song

February is not my favourite month, it has to be said. It has a tendency to be dark, dreary and full of bad weather. But the good news is that it’s a nice short month (even with the extra day this year), and now March is here and we can all start looking forward to Spring. Yes, it’s not only the first of March (pinch and a punch for the first of the month), but it’s the first Thursday in the month, and that makes it time for another video round up. And let me tell you, February has not been dark and dreary at all in the world of video blogging, although there has been some bad weather…

First in my round up of my favourite video blogs of February is Claire from The Lazy Girl’s Guide to Life, who interviewed her children as part of Nickie from Typecast’s campaign to raise awareness of the children’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent. Claire has two gorgeous kids, and I love listening to their answers to the questions. Typical kids – they can’t think of something that Mummy says to them that is nice, but they do know that kisses make Mummy happy. Awwwww…

And whilst I’m talking about cute kids, I really must mention the two that belong to Heather from Young and Younger, who now has a new vlog called Growing Spaces. Heather is having a few home improvements done at the moment, and she recently showed how her kitchen is coming along, and her twins just had to join in too! I must say I can’t wait to see how Heather’s house looks when it’s all finished – I hope we’ll get another video.

We had our first snow of the winter last month, and the snow and ice featured in several people’s blogs. Yuri from Urbanvox shows us his best snow angel, and I juat love watching this video of the Coombe mill ducks walking along the ice on top of the pond. Does it make me a bad person that I was hoping all the way through it that one of them would slip?

If you’re interested in starting to video blog, but not sure how to start, why not join in with one of the BritMums video blogging prompts? There were two during February – maternal instinct – do Mums make better parents and what one thing do you wish you knew before you had kids? Of all the responses to these challenges my favourite has to be Katie Vyktoriah from Snugglybaby who turned her thoughts about what she wishes she’d known before having her son into a song. Watch out for this – it’s a bit of a earworm and you might just be singing it all day!

And while you’re thinking about making a video blog, can I suggest you take a look at Joanne Dewberry’s video where she shows you how not to make a video blog. I think any of us who try to juggle motherhood with video blogging will have some similar footage somewhere.

And my final mention for this month is the lovely Laura from ChezMummy. She’s just started her new “Show Reel” video challenge. Keep an eye on Laura’s blog because every two months she’ll be setting a topic and providing a linky for you to share your videos. As she’s just had to return to work after her maternity leave, it’s not surprising that the video she made for her first topic, one fine day, shows all the things she did with her kids on her last day of freedom. A really very touching video indeed.
