Politics Round-up: Yummy Mummies & O Levels

Hello you lovely peeps. It’s hard to believe that it is time for another politics round-up already! Where is our year going…?

Normally I leave all the ranting and raving to you, but I’m in a bit of a pickle myself this month – having a political identity crisis – so do come and say hello on my blog and share any thoughts you may have.

So who has been pressing your political buttons this month? Michael Gove, it seems. You don’t like him very much, do you!? Aspie in the Family and Crystal Jigsaw are both appalled by his plans to return to O Levels.  Sonya Cisco has a very to-the-point take on it all here and WAHM-BAM just thinks we should build him a time machine. I also love this tongue-in-cheek post from Glosswatch, which asks whether we are taking the Gove-bashing too far.

Whatever your position is, why not head over to read one or two of the posts and share your thoughts.

Cherie Blair has been annoying some of you this month too, with her comments about yummy mummies. Sonya Cisco has this take on it, and Mummy’s Space shares her thoughts here.

The third big thing on your minds this month has been money. Money Money Money. Dad and Proud has a very sobering post about the role of money in making the world go round, while BabberBlog and Daddacool have both shared their thoughts on tax and the payment (or none-payment) thereof. DillyTante has had enough of it all, and decided this race to the top that we are all involved in really isn’t worth the effort.

I’m really pleased to have some international perspectives included in this month’s roundup. Looking for Blue Sky has published a moving post about the threat to respite in Ireland, and what that would mean for her family. Tea and Biscotti has done a post about Italian work culture and the rights and wrongs of a 3 month summer holiday. Finally Aisha Ashraf has shared this post that demonstrates it’s not just in the UK that the education system is being shaken up; there are changes taking place in Canada too.

Three of my favourite posts this month deal with three very different issues. Lulastic has written a post about driving a tank around London (yes, really!) as part of an Arms Treaty campaign. Kylie from Not Even a Bag of Sugar has guest posted at Valuing Maternity about the impact that changing maternity leave allowance will have on the parents of premature babies. And Ross Mountney has written a lovely post about education, and how much our children are really worth.

Finally, I have to confess my new political parent blogger crush. If you are even slightly interested in political blogging, I would highly recommend that you check out This Lemonade Life. Her engaging, well-written, angry and informative posts this month have included one on housing benefit, one on how much the law says you need to live on, and one on looking beyond Ofsted reports when you choose a school.

If I were the Education Minister, I would make her blog compulsory reading for the entire Cabinet. We can all dream, eh?
