BritMums Live: Don't forget your tiara!

Tanya (please call her T or she will think she’s in trouble) is a mum of three that lives in Hampshire and who blogs to keep sane. She is a prolific tweeter and always has a pot of tea on the go. In 2013 she was one of three bloggers who visited Ghana with Comic Relief, live blogging and tweeting from projects as part of their 25th anniversary celebrations of Red Nose Day. In 2014 Team Honk returned with a fundraising relay across the UK, raising money for Sports Relief.

BritMumsLive is this week! Can you believe that?! I bought my ticket before the end of last year’s event and now it is here. Looming large in my diary. Which means my organisational check lists are at fever pitch:

Kennels booked for the dog. Check

Childcare sorted. Check (yes and in order of priority it really was that way round. Sorry kids)

Hotel room confirmed. Check

Business cards. Check

Gin in a tin packed. Check (sorry Susanna and Jen)

Phone charger packed. Check

Back up mobile charging unit packed. Check

Various adaptors for charging unit packed so you can help a friend whose phone has died. Check

Tiara packed. Che … What?

Yes dear blogging friends. Tiara packed. Let me explain why.

I was thrilled to see Emma Freud’s name as the Keynote Speaker for Friday afternoon, what a great way to kick off the weekend. I have been to see Emma speak a few times now, mainly at Henley Literary Festival and every time has been great fun. Engaging, funny, inspiring, sometimes emotional, but above all funny. You can’t spend 25 odd years working with scripts for some of TV’s greatest comedy series of all time and not then know how to engage an audience from the beginning. Or be able to have “taught Colin Firth to kiss the Portuguese girl in Love Actually” on your CV and not know how to have people dying to hear more at a dinner party.

What you will also know if you have ever had the privilege to hear Emma speak that all of this is done whilst wearing a tiara. I like to think that actually Emma always wears a tiara, even when Hoovering or cooking dinner. Actually whilst cooking dinner Emma does make her guinea pigs wear hats made from yellow peppers (you think I am kidding, check out her Twitter stream).

Which means that the wearing of tiaras has now become “a thing” whenever Emma speaks at events. When Emma chatted to Emma Kennedy and Cherry Menlove at the Henley Literary Festival last year, she made them wear woolly hats but a lot of the audience, along with Emma, were wearing tiaras.
