Hello and welcome to the first of the new monthly health round ups. Every third Thursday of the month (yes, please put that into your diary so you don’t forget – I will most probably need to!), I’ll be here writing about new and interesting health-related blog posts that you might want to check out.
For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Laura from Chez Mummy. I’ve worked for a number of health organisations in my time and believe that blogging is one great way to raise awareness of conditions and illnesses. There are some fantastic blogs and blog posts out there so let’s get started…
If you haven’t paid her a visit, I would recommend going to see the Cheetah Keeper’s Mum over at Cheetahs In My Shoes. She writes very candidly about her and her children’s medical conditions (both her and her daughter have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome Type III while her son, the Cheetah Keeper, is hypermobile with a platelet function defect). The Cheetah Keeper is due to go into hospital shortly for an operation and we wish him and his family the best of luck.
Elsewhere on the internet and over the last few months, I’ve witnessed the ability of bloggers to work together and support each other to highlight issues. There has been a real movement of late to end the stigma surrounding mental health issues and post-natal depression in particular.

I Want My Mummy regularly (and bravely) writes about her battle with depression. She even used her online influence to raise money for the Joanne Bingley Memorial Fund, a charity thats aims to support women and their families affected by post-natal depression. Her work inspired others to speak up too.
Meanwhile, Mammasaurus created a video in support of Black Dog Tribe, a ‘social space’ on the world wide web where people can read more about mental health and chat with others to break the stigma. Lots of bloggers joined in with the video, donating images for inclusion. I would recommend checking it out when you have a spare minute or two.
On a more light-hearted note, Lisa Gusto writes about all things health-related. She has some interesting posts about ‘Super Foods’ and healthy eating, but the post that stuck in my mind was one from November – Natural Homemade Head Lice Repellent. With my eldest now at Pre-School, we recently had a letter about those dreaded mites and I shall be preparing some of Lisa’s natural remedy forthwith!
If you have written about any aspect of health in the last month (or maybe just want to promote an older health-related post), sign up to the linky below. I look forward to reading them.
