Health Round-up: Boobs, chickenpox & no days off

Health Round-up: Boobs, chickenpox & no days off

This last month has been a tough one for me. My maternity leave ended at the end of January, and back into the world of work I went at the start of February. So, how have I fared so far? Not too well, I’m afraid. I’m finding it an emotional rollercoaster at the moment and recently blogged about how down I can feel about it all.

One thing that has helped me though is blogging; not just writing my own but also reading others and finding out what is happening in their lives. It’s been a nice exercise in escapism for me.

A blog that I really must tell you about is one that I came across thanks to a friend of mine on Facebook. Alright Tit chronicles the experiences of one young woman who is bravely living with breast cancer and determined not to let it rule her life. Originally diagnosed with the disease at only 28-years-old, Lisa recently discovered the cancer had returned and this time is incurable. Having worked for the fantastic charity, Breakthrough Breast Cancer, I can with some authority reassure you that getting cancer at this young an age is very rare, although that’s obviously little comfort to Lisa. I really would urge you to go and take a read.

Last week, The Gingerbread House enjoyed a fabulous-sounding mummy bloggers picnic to learn more about chickenpox. Should I be scared of chickenpox?? talks about her day in London, finding out more about a common childhood illness.

A couple of ‘old’ posts now and I’ve been reading about fevers and febrile convulsions over at Susan K Mann. Written in February last year, it’s an informative post, which has made me think about the dangers of high temperatures in children.

Susanna from A Modern Mother has written a letter to parents with sick children to remind them to leave them at home in order to limit the spread of those yukky germs. Please leave your sick kid at home was written back in 2010, but is still relevant and I shall definitely be following her advice.

I’ve probably rambled on enough so I’ll leave you now with some light relief. Writeonmum has discovered there is no such thing as a day off for mums, especially when you’re ill.

As ever, please link up your old and new health posts. I promise I’ll visit you all and leave a comment (now if that’s not an incentive, I don’t know what is!)
