Foodie Round-up: June – Global Food

This month, we are concentrating on Global Food.

I love to travel, but I also love to eat, and quite often, one of the things that inspires me to visit a country is the cuisine. Another thing that helps, is the sunshine factor. Which quite frankly has been lacking even in my neck of the woods, and as for the UK…. Oh dear.

So, without further ado, I will now hand over to some wonderful food bloggers, who will no doubt inspire us to cook up some sunshine in our very own kitchens instead….

First up, My Little Italian Kitchen who takes us to Portugal with her incredible looking Portugese Custard Tarts. There is absolutely no way I could stop at just one of these…

Then we are off to Turkey, where (and making a nice change from hummus) we have some very summery Babaganoush from the beautifully photographed And Here We Are…

Next up it’s Thailand, where Mamacook tempts the younger members of our families with a wonderful looking Green Curry for Toddlers.

Sticking with Asia, we cross next to Malaysia, where Su Lin at Tamarind and Thyme has a mouth-watering recipe for Sayur Lodeh, a spiced vegetable stew.

Also with a promise of some heat (but this time in chilli form), is The Curry Guy and a Turkey Curry with a home-made curry sauce.

We can’t forget our friends across “The Pond”, and Jam and Clotted Cream has a really great looking MacandCheese with Bacon to warm us up.

Can you hear the Mariachi’s? It’s over to Mexico next,  where Anna at Morsels and Musings has a really delicious sounding Smoky Chicken Chipotle Nachos. All those bright colours can’t help but remind you of summer surely?

Using Middle Eastern spices, Pia from Peppercorns in My Pocket has a fabulous looking recipe for Sujoc Spiced Chicken and Summer Vegetables on her lovely post “The Windows Are Open”. She promises we can leave this dish to cook by itself while we enjoy the sunshine, or a glass of Pinot. Looks like it’s the Pinot then!

Back to Europe next, and Italy with EmikoDavies. Her love for her old adopted country is evident in a blog packed full of Italian recipes. This Sugo Finto with Handmade Pici recipe looks divine, and I love the stories behind the recipes in this post.

Then onto Spain… The very versatile Tinned Tomatoes has a recipe for a spicy Mojo Picon.   It would go well with nearly anything I reckon…

Rich from Them Apples shows us how to make something I always thought impossible – Croissants!   They don’t look altogether that complicated either… Something to fill a rainy morning or an empty belly?  The choice is yours!

Over to Scandinavia now, where Domestic Goddessque bakes us a delicious looking Swedish Visiting Cake.  Anyone’s welcome to visit my house if they bring me one of these OK?

I couldn’t not mention something we are all eating in Germany right now… Letters From Frau Dietz shows us how it’s done with some beautiful White Asparagus with a Hollandaise Sauce...

 And finally, a good old English classic – Poires au Chocolat gives us quite possibly the most spectacular looking Lemon Meringue Pie (but in tartlet form, complete with brown sugar meringues!), I think I have ever seen!

Speaking of English Food…  July’s Foodie Round-up will concentrate on all things British,  just in time for The Olympics!  Help to dispel the myth that English food is not up to much, and get adding all those wonderful red, white and blue recipes to the linky below… Can’t wait to read them!  Thanks everyone!
