BritMums Blogger of the Week- Downs Side Up

BritMums Blogger of the Week- Downs Side Up

A week ago today, 500+ people descended upon The Brewery in London to have a pretty darn good time at BritMums Live! I believe many of us are still shaking off the effects of BritMums Live-lag (or is that just me). There were so many amazing things that happened over the course of the weekend but the most amazing was the reaction to a blog post. All of us write blog posts every day but one very moving and wise blog post brought a room of bloggers, PR’s and special guests to tears but also to their feet in a standing ovation. That blog post was delivered by the exceptionally elegant Hayley Goleniowski…this week’s BritMums Blogger of the Week!

What to say when a baby is born with Down’s Syndrome” was the post that Hayley read. We’re pretty sure that when Hayley wrote that post at the beginning of this year, she couldn’t possibly have known the impact it would make on the British blogging world. Hayley shared meaningful advice in this post but it also let us into the lives of the Goleniowski family in the weeks following Natty’s birth. And what a wonderful family they are! You simply must read “Thank You for having me” to see how much the BritMums Live! weekend meant to Hayley.

Hayley’s blog, “Downs Side Up” is an amazing collection of writing which is changing the perceptions of Downs Syndrome. To isolate one post isn’t enough. You simply need to get a cuppa (or a glass of wine, depending on the time of day), block out about an hour of time and just READ. Everything in Downs Side Up is beautiful and inspiring. You’ll see! We’d also like to point out that the gorgeous Natty has made The Sun earlier this year.

Let’s give another standing ovation (in our dressing gowns this time) to Hayley at Downs Side Up. You are, quite simply, amazing. Thank you for sharing your story and your outstanding Natty with us. We can’t wait to see what happy adventures are in store for you all. You can follow Hayley on Twitter (@DownsSideUp) as well.

I’m going to spend the weekend recharging my batteries. All that social media maven stuff over the weekend has worn me right out! Have a good weekend all…and Happy Blogging!

That truly was an awesome speech (in the real sense of the word). Hayley kept tweeting that she was humbled by the response, but I think we audience members were the ones who were humbled.

I still can't quite believe my musings had such an impact. I am just coming down from the experience now, feeling more determined to change the world for our children. Thank you all x

Thank you Kate. I saw a friend in you straight away. I couldn't have cried and shaken my way through that speech without you all x

I am so touched by all of this. Couldn't have got up there without knowing you were all behind me. Thank you (and tee hee at the 'famous' bit)
