BritMums at #BlogHer11

BritMums at #BlogHer11

BlogHer is the biggest blogging conference for women in the United States, if not the world, and BritMums was there. We spent Friday and Saturday talking to and hearing from some of the most inspirational and inspired bloggers blogging right now. (The pic on the right is Susanna and Jen with Jory, co-founder of  BlogHer).

At the opening keynote we chatted with Liz Henry, the very cool blogger who also happens to be one of the people who hleped unmask Gay Girl in Damascus as a fictional character created by an American man. The night before we hung out with the lovely Jenny from The Bloggess and Laura Mayes, the founder of the Mom 2.0 Summit, one of the leading conference for entrepreneurial women in the UK.

Then it was onto the conference itself, where we caught some great discussions and kept running into people. Lisa Belkin, who writes the New York Times’s Motherlode blog, told us she loves all the social research coming out of the UK – stuff that Americans just wouldn’t think about. We got our picture taken with Wendi McLendon-Covey, whose name you may not recognise but if you’ve seen Bridesmaids you know her as the blonde married one with sons. (She wants to start a blog called either Don’t Be Such a Slob or Sit Out That Trend, inspired by PeopleofWalmart.com. Watch this space.)

Don’t forget to ask Susanna about her new admirer, Michelin star chef Marco Pierre White. We found him at the Knorr stand, cooking asparagus risotto. The American audience didn’t seem to appreciate him as much as we did. We were impressed with his knowledge of UK pubs.

It was Susanna’s first time at the conference, Jennifer’s third. We missed our fellow Brits who previously helped ensure we had a respectable cocktail bill at BlogHer10 and BlogHer11: @mummytips, @cosmicgirlie, @MDTaz, @ToniHargis (aka Expat Mum) and @InthePowderRoom (founder Diane Hayman). They’re all promising to come next year along with @Melaina25, when BlogHer12 is back in New York City.

Will we see you there?

Jen and Susanna

I was there! I'm a former Brit now living between DC and Baltimore. I am from outside Manchester, in Wilmslow, Cheshire. BlogHer 11 was amazing wasn't it? The weather was perfect. Not muggy like I am used to in DC. No bugs at all. I could live in San Diego forever. Hated to leave!
