It’s shocking that some people believe we can afford to invest less in fighting breast cancer; that enough work has already been done.
Breast cancer is not yesterday’s cause and the need for Breakthrough Breast Cancer’s work has never been greater. Breast cancer is still the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the UK, affecting 50,000 women and 400 men every year.
Devastatingly, the disease kills 1,000 women every month and that’s why Breakthrough Breast Cancer is committed to putting breast cancer back on the agenda.
The charity was the first of its kind to set up a dedicated breast cancer Research Centre when no others existed. Funding more than 270 world-class scientists, Breakthrough is utterly determined to stop women getting, and dying from, this disease.
On top of funding 25% of the breast cancer research in the UK, Breakthrough also educates women to recognise the signs and symptoms of the disease.
#MoreThanALump
The earlier breast cancer is found the better the chances of beating it – which is why it is vital that women make regular checks and know what signs and symptoms they are looking for.
Throughout October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Breakthrough Breast Cancer is urging women to text SIGNS to 70500 to get their free credit-card sized TLC (Touch Look Check) guide.
Not only does the TLC guide detail the key signs and symptoms of breast cancer, it also includes information about what to do if you notice anything unusual. Its handy size means women can keep it somewhere useful, such as in a handbag or on the nightstand, so that it can act as a helpful reminder to check their breasts. Text today, it could save your life.
#ShopPink
There are plenty of ways to support Breakthrough’s life-saving research this October.
This year, Breakthrough’s collection of pink products includes something for everyone; Avon, ghd, and cult US product GlamGlow have got your beauty needs covered; for chic lingerie and fashion you only need look to M&S, Warehouse, My Wardrobe and Debenhams while our fantastic friends at Laura Ashley and Sainsbury’s have stunning home and interiors collections.

#GreatPinkBakeOff
Breakthrough Breast Cancer is also recruiting an army of bakers to fire up their ovens, hit the kitchen and give breast cancer a good beating in the first ever Great Pink Bake Off. The charity is calling on local communities to whip up some support to help raise some dough. Head over to www.pinkbakeoff.org and get planning for your bake off on Friday 18th October.
There are so many ways you can get involved this Breast Cancer Awareness Month, whether you’re raising some dough, shopping with a conscience, or simply making sure you’re aware of the signs and symptoms, your support can help take us closer to a day when women need no longer fear a diagnosis of this terrible disease.
Together, we really will achieve our vision of a world freed from breast cancer.
