Breakthrough and Touch, Look, Check

Breakthrough and Touch, Look, Check

TLC guideOctober marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Shocking new research from Breakthrough Breast Cancer has revealed that 98% of women cannot name five warning signs of breast cancer.

In response Breakthrough Breast Cancer has launched a new, handy breast awareness guide to make sure women have a reminder of the signs and symptoms, wherever they are.

BritMums supports Breakthrough

BritMums is helping Breakthrough spread the word and to encourage people to text for their Touch, Look, Check (TLC) guide.

So we are encouraging you to write a blog post based on the following idea

“What TLC means to me”

You can talk about any direct or indirect experiences of breast cancer.  Alternatively, you can just answer the question in a way that makes sense to you perhaps highlighting how Tender Loving Care for yourself and your family includes checking your breasts.

Supported by Dr Hilary Jones and Bernie Nolan, amongst other celebrities, the TLC guide contains the charity’s award winning Touch Look Check (TLC) breast awareness message. It advises women to touch their breasts, look for any changes and if they spot anything unusual, check it out with their GP.

The TLC guide is available by texting TLC to 84424 or, alternatively, you can register for your free guide at www.tlcguide.org. (Text users will only be charged their standard network rate and no premium number charges apply.)

Breakthrough Breast Cancer Ambassador Bernie Nolan said: “People assume finding a lump is the only way to spot breast cancer but that’s not the case. I noticed my breasts had changed shape and immediately went to see my doctor. I cannot stress enough how important it is to get to know your breasts and remember to check for unusual changes. That’s why I would urge people to text TLC to 84424* to get their free credit card sized TLC (Touch Look Check) guide from Breakthrough Breast Cancer and use it as a reminder to check their breasts. It really could save your life.”

So what are you waiting for?

Write a blog post about what TLC means to you and link it up below.  Please include this paragraph in your post.

“Finding breast cancer early could save your life. Know the signs, text TLC to 84424* for your free handy TLC guide from Breakthrough Breast Cancer, or register at www.tlcguide.org.
*Standard networks apply”

Let’s get this life-saving message out to as many people as possible.

You may or may not know, that my mum has just been diagnoised. She asked for me NOT to blog about it on my blog, but I did a guest post on Kellie at Big Fashionista's if you want to see what we are going through. Today (3:15pm) we find out what course of treatment she is going to have. The tumour was taken out last Tuesday and we are just getting our heads around the diagnosis.

Stay positive SAM, my mum was diagnosed last year, had the op, had the chemo, lost her hair BUT beat it and now her hair has grown back and she's bounced back to her usual lovely self.

I won't deny there were hard times and lots of tears but she did it and we're so very happy, hugs to you and your mum

Linked up to my Breast Cancer Awareness post - it's using the Breast Cancer Care info instead of TLC but the message is essentially the same!
