At Save the Children we’ve just re-launched our annual Build it for Babies appeal and we’re looking for bloggers who would like to help us spearhead our social media campaign Blog it for Babies.
Last year our Blog it for Babies campaign was a huge success thanks to the support and creativity of the blogging community. Bloggers, led by Annie of ‘Mammasaurus’ and her blogging tour, helped to smash the fundraising target, with over £1million raised to build clinics in Bangladesh.
This year we’re aiming to raise £500,000 to build and equip six clinics in remote areas of Liberia, a country where over 1 in 6 children die before their first birthday, often because of a lack of access to healthcare. Years of war have left the country’s infrastructure in ruins and just 40% of the population live within reach of professional healthcare. Some women are forced to walk up to eight hours, whilst in labour, to reach healthcare facilities.
We would love to chat with bloggers who would like to help us spear-head the campaign and develop it into something that will bring lots of bloggers on-board. We’re aiming to organise a bloggers conference call to talk about the campaign and ideas for it at the end of next week.
We’ll also be holding an event for bloggers at the beginning of August, hosted by the stars of the fly on the wall show ‘One Born Every Minute’ – Maud Hardy, Gemma Raby and Louise Holt. They recently travelled to Liberia with Save the Children where they worked alongside traditionally trained midwives in existing clinics. They will share their experiences of visiting one of the world’s poorest countries, where girls face a one in 10 chance of dying during pregnancy or childbirth.
The event will be an afternoon tea with the midwives and, of course, children are welcome to come along too. Then, by talking and tweeting, blogging and sharing, you can help us put this issue in the spotlight.
