My Best Post of The Week >> Add yours

One of my major ‘let’s keep positive’ tactics to help me through the daily humdrum of what can at times become a tiresome life is to have something to look forward to; a date in the diary, somewhere to go, a person to meet up with. It doesn’t have to be exceedingly expensive, it doesn’t have to be fancy but I do like to glance at my diary and have something there, it kind of helps me get through my working week and plough on through all the bits I don’t like doing – housework, paperwork, you know that stuff.

My calendar is my lifeline, I jot all sorts on there, things to remember for the school run, appointments, people to phone, when husband is out and of course everyone’s birthdays, if you’re not on the calendar you won’t be getting a card. During the last days of December one of my jobs is to transfer over birthdays, anniversaries and other dates to remember, that includes the days we lost our loved ones. Is this just me?

The day my father passed away was 6 years ago this week. Dad is never far from my mind, I even thought I saw him in the crowd once, maybe I did who knows? However the 9th is the day he passed and a day I like to take time out to think about him more than usual. This year I wrote him a letter Dear Dad style. It was cathartic and I was really pleased I did.

I tend to get relatively personal about my feeling and kids but not about my marriage. I try to get that to me. Although, I do talk about hubby in some of my posts.

Such a lovely idea to write a letter. I have a photo of someone I lost that I talk to. But maybe I'll put pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard instead in the future. Thank you.

The question of "how personal" is very topical for me today. I don't get very personal - I talk about my life, but I keep it upbeat and light. Rarely do I get down deep and dirty ;-) haha!

However this morning I posted the most personal post I have ever written. It was on hold for a couple of weeks whilst I thought about it. I'd been contacted by CRUK asking to guest-post on my blog. I don't typically let charities, retailers, brands etc do this - unless I have a strong affiliation. My blog is my virtual home and I wouldn't let just anyone into my IRL home would I?

So today I talked about a very difficult time, but it's a good news story. I can talk about it now. Now that it's going to be okay.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your Dad, Mari. I read that letter last night as it happens and it moved to tears almost immediately and kept me in them all the way through. Such love. Such a privilege XX
