Back to Blogging

back to bloggingDay 5 the last of Back to Blogging week here at BritMums HQ. Today our attention is on Google + the latest social media to really bring all of our good work together.

If you haven’t started on Google + yet you might like to read our Google Masterclass section for tips on getting started.

It’s been a busy week and I am so pleased to see such a great response to the Back to Blogging week, I hope you have gained new readers, followers, likers and pinners so far and I hope you will continue to like, share, follow and pin when you see something worthy.

Google + has the reputation of being difficult to master but in all honesty this is not the case, it is very similar to all the other social media we have been using and the most important thing to bare in mind is the word Google.

Google search engine

We all rely heavily on the Google search engine to drive readers to our blogs right? We all use Google as a household term, a verb meaning to search the internet and by pumping in a few words we are given a list of links that could be just what we are looking for, right?

So that’s why it’s important to bloggers that Google sees their work and proposes it on searches made. If you have the best recipe for Apple pie you want to make sure it’s high on the list, if you have craft ideas, photography, debates or anything that you want people to read we all need to +1 it so  the robots running Google pick up on it and recognise the material.

Make it easy for me, the reader to share your work

Make sure all of your posts have a Google +1 button in the share options and/or a Google share option too. If I land on your blog and read something I think my followers would be interested in it makes sense for me to +1 it, it will appear on my Google + timeline and I can choose which of my circles to share it with (recipes for toddlers won’t be of use to mums with adolescents)

The more +1’s a post gains the more Google will start to propose it and your stats will start soaring in respect of the new readers landing on your blog, your next trick will be to keep them there and to entice them back but that’s a future blog post in the making!

Social Media Week

  • A personal page will look like this https://plus.google.com/u/0/109948436489041964135/posts

Let us know which circle you want to be in

Google+ works by putting authors into categories, therefore confirming which type of blogger you are with search engines. If you write about Crafts, Food, DIY, Party Planning, Homeschooling tell us.  This way we can put you in the correct circle and Google can classify you as you want to be

Circle people in the comments.  This helps all of us to increase our Google page rank and be found on the topics we want.

Watch out next week for our BritMums Coffee Break Google + hangout on Wednesday at 10.15 you can listen in as we chat with two well known bloggers and their tips for keeping social media under control, come and join in the fun 😉

I thought I'd created a G+ for my blog, but from your description I've created a personal one :o(

No idea how to change it, but it is: https://plus.google.com/u/0/111597368955446532636/posts

I don't have a single 'friend' on there so feel free to add me or hang out with me or whatever the heck the correct terminology is!

Hi, here is Actually Mummy on G+ https://plus.google.com/b/103896829917183126847/103896829917183126847/posts

I've tried to see what circles you have, but can't see them anywhere. My preference would be to be in a circle focused around humour, education, and school-aged children :)
