BC – Before Children – BiB Fresh Voice contender

bib2013fresh voiceNext up in the Fresh Voice category with a special guest post is Darren who writes One dad 3 girls here he ponders on life before children does it resonate with you?

Life with children for the most part is the greatest job in the World but the big question is before children what did we do?

A general day involves being awake at 6.30ish and then come getting ready for school and breakfast as well as getting showered and clothed. All this before 8am and then after the school run it’s time to entertain Mia and getting lunch ready. After some housework it’s off to pick up Aly at 3 and once we’ve got home it’s almost time to get dinner ready. The mass clear up of dinner only means bath time is approaching and again it’s time to tidy the toys and get ready for bed.

By the time 7 o’clock arrives we’re pooped. The worry is it’ll only get worse as the girls stay up later and join after school clubs and other activities.

Before we had children me and my wife had lived together for about 3 years and both worked a standard 5 days a week between the hours of 8 and 5 but what did we do outside
of these hours?!

Did we really have a social life? I seem to remember we used to have friends round for dinner once a week which also included us playing poker until late on into the night.

I have a funny feeling we may have also had some money in our pockets but that quickly disappeared. The weekly food shop wouldn’t come to any more than £50. £50!!! How we wish our shopping was that these days.

But the thing is I’d never swap my girls for anything in the World. I can rest when I’m old and I’ll never have any money so why worry about that.
My girls mean everything to me I just wish for a lay in till say 8.

OD3GOneDad3Girls started off at the end of 2011 and has become a place where we tell our tales about our young family. The family is made up of me Darren or Daddy, Laura (Mummy), my 5 year old angel Alyssa and my 2 year old cheeky monkey Mia.
Our passions as a family involve spending time together, photography and many arts and craft projects that normally result in a lot of mess.
