100 Word Challenge and Night Zookeeper join forces

A match made in heaven or in the classroom as this case may be. Julia Skinner, founder of 100 Word Challenge is very excited to share the great news of the new Night Zookeeper connection and how will this is going to help children up and down the country fall in love with writing.

Last week at the ‘Talk on the Tyne’ teaching conference it was announced that the popular education programmes Night Zookeeper and 100 Word Challenge have joined forces to get even more children writing. 

NightZookeeper will now host the weekly writing prompts devised by Julia Skinner, a former Head teacher, who founded the 100 Word Challenge soon after she retired.

100 Word Challenge has a loyal community of over 800 classes that participate in the weekly writing prompts and this partnership will now give them  access to Night Zookeeper’s advanced literacy improvement platform.

Night Zookeeper is an exciting learning game that inspires children to write and is linked to a Teachers Toolkit. Teachers can leave comments, reward children in the game and assess the children’s writing against National Curriculum objectives.

About 100 Word Challenge

We ask children to write in school but often there is no apparent purpose that they can see other than pleasing their teacher! This can prompt some very reluctant writers in our classrooms. The 100 Word Challenge seeks to address this problem. By setting a limited word count with a focused theme and a guaranteed audience beyond the class teacher, children have far greater motivation for writing. Those who are reluctant writers feel safe with only 100 words to write, whilst those more advanced writers can really extend themselves with the word restriction.
