Your beauty gifts and tips this Christmas

lipstick closeupAt our recent #bootschristmas Twitter party, we asked you to share your thoughts on the new ad for Boots, plus your holiday beauty tips and favourite beauty gifts that keep on giving.

The party was sponsored by Boots UK. Check out the Boots UK new Christmas adverts around the theme of giving gifts that keep on giving, which – we have to confess – makes us feel a bit warm and tingly every time we watch it. (You can also see the behind-the-scenes video.)

Christmas advert

The ad has *just* the right amount of sentimentality, humour, variation in family units – spot on, Boots, I reckon. @jaynecrammond

I like that they’ve used real people, no super models or beauty queens! Just REAL , normal everyday people. @V82CHRIS

Gift Ideas

I like the tutorial kits at Boots that give step by step on new makeup styles. Fab. @ClaireLouise82

I love to give a make-up set to my eldest daughter; lots of colours for her to experiment with. @MumforAutism

Something to help with pampering or relaxation – nothing like a luxurious, heavily scented bath on a winter night. @jaynecrammond

Sparkle

I use body lotion which contains shimmer. It looks gives a great night time effect. @sadie-birdie

Make it sassy! I love a fiery red long-lasting lipstick (kind you can’t kiss away)! and silver sparkle on my lids! @dgmommyblogger

My tip for glamming up: cover the dark circles, use more dramatic lipstick and curl your lashes. @jhowze

I like black eyeliner with a little glitter over the top to feel festive. @mummyadventure

For me the best Christmas sparkle is a super shimmery lip gloss perfect for topping up your pout while cooking the turkey! @rosiecorriette

Metallic sparkly nail polish will rock and add sparkles to the wardrobe. @CoxeeFoxy

Subtle

Use subtle colours, don’t go mad with bright colours, will blend in with whatever you wear. @_cathyj_

I also think less is more don’t overdo foundation use lip liner and lip gloss and a nice eye shadow. @KayAdeola

Don`t go to heavy on the blusher and watch out for that dreaded orange line around the jawline. @chrisme1

Always use waterproof mascara as you don’t want to end up looking like a panda. @007bambam

Don’t go too crazy make up wise – it may be Christmas but you don’t want to look like a pantomime dame ! @staffstechgirl

Skincare

I mix my liquid foundation with moisturiser (only a tiny bit) in the winter. It keeps my face soft. @TheLazyGirlBlog

Mix foundation with face cream to get more natural shade and last longer. @ClaireLouise82

Always use a good moisturiser before you apply make-up helps your skin no end. @KayAdeola

Lipstick

Put lipstick on, blot, reapply, blot reapply, then gloss or buy some Lipcote will stay on all night. @serialcrafter

Apply lip-gloss to the centre of your top lip for a fuller look and always have a balm handy to prevent dry lips. @TheMiniMesandMe

Quick fix

Dry freshly painted nails quickly by blasting the cool shot from your hairdryer on them. @finleypoppet

Always use self-tanning lotion for healthier looking skin. No need for foundation just a little concealer and you’re done! @madaramiauu

Mascara! A lick of mascara always makes me feel good and not so bare face if I haven’t time for makeup! @KaraCariad

I spray my hairbrush with a touch of perfume, makes my hair smell lovely. @sadie_birdie

Vaseline

Apply vaseline to eyelashes; remove with a cotton pad. It conditions the lashes! A great gentle eye make-up remover. @parisatweets

Pop some vaseline around your hairline if colouring your hair at home to prevent skin staining @lilababb

Handbag tip for winter keep a small pot of Vaseline to use for chapped hands and lips @chrisme1

Handbag essentials

Keep a sample size of your favourite perfume in your handbag its lighter than carrying the whole bottle. @chrisme1

Always have cotton buds nearby to fix any smudges! 😀 @ Tayen2012

Pop some Benefit rose tint in your bag – perfect for creating rosy lips and cheeks while you’re out. @mummyblogger

Bring a comb and lip gloss out with you in case you need a quick fix 🙂 leave the rest at home (its heavy). @V82CHRIS
