Working Parents Round-Up: Dead mad busy

working parents round up blog postsHello lovely people – its seems as though I just get my head around one thing, only for me to decide it’d be a “really good idea” to start some other new hair-brained idea, and send my head into a whirlwind spin.

Is it important for us all to be “busy” these days? Is this a working parent culture thang? Is it just not the done thing for people to answer to the “How are you getting on?” question…

I’m fine thanks, chilling out and enjoying life”

We always have to say…

“I am just sooo busy; its mad?”

What do you think? How have you managed over the last month, are you dead mad busy? I even wrote about trying to organise myself better on the KiddyCharts blog this week; I have my special five point plan.

However, I am not sure it worked that well. I did manage to get a little bit of help from the kids this time though, as my Stickers, Stars and Smiles post suggests, I even got a bit of extra time in bed! 😉 Sadly, I found this post from Mum and Career about working in the holiday far too late, next time I WILL get it right.  At least our kids keep us amused over the half-term holidays, they certainly did over at The Mini Mes and Me anyway!

Other working parents also seem to have been trying to organise themselves better too, with Chez Mummy finally getting her one day a week working from home – good luck for the future with this…it helps me, but does bring its own challenges of course. One lovely lady who is no stranger to being busy working from home is Helen Lindop, and her excellent post on how to manage the online marketing overwhelm that can grip those of us that manage their own business, is well worth a read/listen to.

Social media isn’t the only thing that eats into ones time if you are a working parent with their own business, marketing is another one – so how about checking out the Birds on the Blog post about getting your business into the press…might help cut some of the marketing c**p for you perhaps?

Organisation means putting things into boxes – right? But that doesn’t necessarily include your kids now does it?!?! Except it did for The Best of Two Sisters with this utterly adorable post. Boxes are so much more fun than the toys they come in…or anything else we have in the house for that matter 😀

Sometimes we don’t have enough time to organise our gorgeous-ness right? If that is the case, then head on over to The Life and Times of the Working Mum and check out some of the tips that she has this month for your skin, keeping it looking uber fab, despite the interrupted nights..

What about helping keep cooking to some sort of organised chaos – Cass from The Diary of  Frugal Family has some excellent tips on using the old Slow Cooker to help out with this, suggesting its a great idea to use it more. I have to agree as well. We have one. If I use it, the food tastes gorgeous and its soooooo easy.

Cooking around birthdays can be a bit of a nightmare when you are a working parent too. I cheat, and get someone else to do the cake. I did so again this year when my daughter turned eight in early October. However, Muddling Along Mummy as a much better solution; a foolproof cake…not sure it would be Helen-proof though?

Finally, lets give WitWitWoo some encouragement after this month saw her being made redundant. I know that feeling as it has happened to me too. Good luck in finding that next big thing. At least you might find more time to be organised about it? And enjoy writing in your cafe too; I am pretty sure with your skills you won’t be hanging about there too much longer.

About Helen Neale

Helen is the editor of the working parents round up, a freelance writer and owner of personalised children's chart business, KiddyCharts. She was a business analyst, and then a tweed-skirted school librarian as she tried to find work that fitted in with the demands of motherhood. Mummy's Little Stars is where you will find her sometimes funny musings about life as a working parent, and mum to some over exuberant small people. She has only been blogging since January 2012, so go gentle with her; she might break. You can find Helen on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn; where she probably hangs out a bit too much.
