We have had some great self-catering holidays in the UK this year including a wonderful week in a stylish house overlooking Woolacombe Bay in Devon. But is it still a holiday when you have to do the cooking and washing up? I think so, especially if everyone does their bit and you try and have a few meals out. For me, just being away from the normal routine makes it a holiday. Sleeping arrangements are also far easier than in a hotel, particularly for larger families.

Glamping

Fantastic list. We loved this self-catering place in New Forest -- it is right in the middle of things. You can cycle through the New Forest, eat at local pubs with cute little gardens then go home to marinate in a hot tub and cook a family meal together.
