There’s always something wonderfully childish about finding products in a foreign country which have a totally different meaning in English. Take the ‘Plopp’ chocolate we ate in Sweden in the summer: amused me immensely. Though not as much as a couple of the hotels we chose to stay in during our trip around the country. If you’d like a giggle, check out Hotels with rude-sounding names.
It would seem that Louise, from Yummy Mummy? Really? is equally amused by such things. In series of posts about her holiday to Bournemouth and Slough, she is tickled by Middle Wallop, Piddle Valley and suffers from a painful groyne. The first of her posts is Day One: Sandy Balls.
Nothing rude at all about staying in a yurt but the word makes me smile. Gemma, from Helloitsgemma, describes an idyllic holiday in Somerset, in a beautifully written post: Yurt Life. Susanna, A Modern Mother, has also been staying in a yurt, this time in California and it sounds fabulous: Our stay in a yurt.
If you’ve ever wondered how theme parks cater for very young children, there is a great post from Jennifer, at Jennifer’s Little World, which provides a comprehensive review of Alton Towers if you are taking tiny ones. I loved the photograph of her two children getting to grips with the maps: Alton Towers with babies and toddlers.
Zipping across to France, I discovered Stephanie (aka the Llamalady) who moved with her family from Ireland to Creuse where, amongst the rest of their menagerie, they keep eight llamas and six alpacas. Stephanie writes at Blog in France and recently, while visiting Bordeaux, took a hike up the largest sand dune in Europe. Read how she was Done In By The Dune Du Pyla.
I was also drawn to a number of posts from Selena at Oh, the places we will go. Selena’s photographs are always excellent and this selection in particular shows travel photography at its best as she explores the many different faces of Paris: Au Revoir, Paris (Part 5)
Lucy (Family Affairs and other matters) had a very emotional journey to Africa where, with her brothers, she was carrying out her father’s wishes for his ashes to be scattered at Victoria Falls. There are a number of posts about the trip, all worth reading, but this one was so scary I needed a lie down after reading it. Huge respect for Lucy: Defying Death at Victoria Falls, Livingstone Park, Zambia.
My final choice for this round-up comes from Katy Hill. Many of us met Katy at the BritMums conference in June this year, where she was presenting the BIB awards. Katy recently took an unexpected Twitter holiday in Devon: a lack of internet resulted in the happy consequence of providing her with more quality time with her family in a rather lovely holiday cottage: From Devon…with love.
As always, please leave any other travel posts I haven’t been able to feature on the linky below.

About Trish Burgess
Trish Burgess started her blog ‘Mum’s Gone To…’ with a series of posts called ‘Mum's Gone To Iceland' where she was extremely ill on a whale-watching trip and thought she would die snow-mobiling on a glacier. Thankfully she survived and continued with less scary family trips: ‘Mum’s Gone To…Canada, Cyprus, Barcelona, Berlin etc. Originally from Newcastle upon Tyne she now lives in South Lincolnshire and travels with her husband and occasionally with her son, who is now at university.
