04 May 2018 by Gretta Schifano

travelFor some of us, a holiday means relaxing on a lounger and not doing very much at all. But not everyone takes this view. If you like to be active on your travels, here are some inspirational posts for you from BritMums’ bloggers. Thank you to everyone who contributed this month.

    AKUMAL BEACH, RIVIERA MAYA, MEXICO

Josie Peden of Where Jo Goes shares her experience of snorkelling with her kids in Mexico, and it sounds fantastic. They saw turtles and many other sea creatures on their guided snorkelling trip.

    Ria Formosa Algarve bike tour

This post from my blog Mums do travel is about an excellent guided bike tour which I went on with my husband. We were staying on Portugal’s Algarve coast for a few days, without kids, and both thoroughly enjoyed the experience of cycling in the Ria Formosa lagoon area.

The Sweetest Of Summers – Our Family Holidays In Holland – Netherlands With Kids

Nichola West of Globalmouse Travels says that hers is not a very active family – but they certainly did a lot of cycling on this trip to Holland. Holland has cycle lanes all over the place and is mostly flat, so it’s a great place for cycling.

A GLAMPING AND SURFING HOLIDAY IN SPAIN WITH A TODDLER

If you’d like to learn how to surf, then do read this by Karen, Travel Mad Mum. Karen writes about a very active, but also very relaxing, family trip in Northern Spain, involving cycles, surfing and yoga.

Tenerife: The Ultimate List of Things to do for Active Families

In this post Zena Goldman of Zena’s suitcase shares her tips for family-friendly outdoor activities in Tenerife. The Spanish island is astonishingly diverse geographically and has a great variety of things to do.

15 things to do with kids near Lake Maggiore, Italian Lakes

Lisa of Travel Loving Family shares her recommendations for things to do in the spectacular Italian Lakes. From riding in a bucket lift to swimming and splashing at one of the lidos, there are many fun activities to enjoy there.

BIKES, CANOES AND HORSES: GETTING ACTIVE IN THE NEW FOREST

Cathy Winston of Mummy Travels enjoyed an active weekend in the New Forest with her young daughter, cycling, canoeing and on a horse-drawn carriage ride. The New Forest is a peaceful National Park and is only 90 minutes from London – when I was last there I wondered (as Cathy did) why I don’t visit it more often, as it really is a special place.

    RAMSGATE: AN ACTIVE FAMILY DESTINATION

Zoe of Juggling on Rollerskates writes about an action-packed weekend in Ramsgate, Kent. From visiting a seal colony to exploring a network of underground tunnels, it’s amazing to read about what Zoe and her family experienced in this English seaside town.

    School Holiday Shipwreck Seeking

This is such a great idea – Lucy Holmes of Kids of the Wild explains how to look for shipwrecks. Lucy says that there are tens of thousands of shipwreck sites around the UK, and she shares her experience of shipwreck seeking with her family.

7 reasons to visit Aerial Extreme, Staffordshire

Jen Howze of Jenography was impressed with Aerial Extreme when she visited while on a trip to Staffordshire. The high ropes course is right next to Monkey World and Jen says it’s a good idea to visit the two on the same day.
