We have loads of new BMB members, and they are all asking for tips for promoting their blogs. There are no secrets! Just ask. Below are some tricks you can try.
1. Put your self on Wikio’s top parent blogging index. A blog’s position on the ranking is based on an evaluation of incoming links and other measures. Head on over, and make sure you enter your blog to be evaluated for next month.
2. Create a Twitter account. Twitter’s micro blogging platform has become very popular – watch out it can be addictive! Here are some tips on how to get the most out of Twitter.
3. Get yourself a Facebook Fan Page. It may sound self-indulgent, but do it! This social networking site alllows you to “friend” like-minded people. You can add links to your articles, and “like” them.
4. Use StumbleUpon. Seriously, if you crack this one it is fabulous for getting new readers to your site. Take a look at this post on how to use Stumbleupon to gets loads of traffic.
5. Get Digging! Digg is another community of readers you must to tap in to. People “discover” your site and share it if they like it. When that happens, you can share and discuss the topic.
6. Reddit is a site that allows people to discover what is new and popular on the web. You can submit content, and then members “vote” on it.
7. Kirtsy is Guy Kawasaki’s social media site to share posts. It’s similar to StumbleUpon and Reddit, but much more-parent blogger friendly. Try it!
8. Join BMB! We host new member blog hops and a bi-monthly blogging carnival. You can also list your blog posts on the front page.

One most important tip I'd personally recommend is to read and leave thoughtful comments on other blogs in your niche. It's not such a fast technique, but over time really helps network with likeminded people who often click through to read our own sites. And of course, if you've joined BMB there'll be loads of links to other parent bloggers to get started =]

I totally agree with all that's said previously especially the joining of indexes in your area or niche. I too publish an Index. I know I felt really alone as everyone seemed to know each other. I'd advise people to network with people that are complimentary to them so they can work together and collaborate. Blogging isn't a competition. There are many ways to approach people these days and remember to find similar sized audience. There are plenty of blogs that are always mentioned and popular people but there are lots of fantastic bloggers who are doing great things and not just recognised as "big" yet. Make some friends

Hi BMB, Great post, I definitely agree with having a Facebook page, it's brought me a lot of new traffic. As well as Wikio, I'd advise bloggers to look at other indexes - for example, I publish a monthly index of parent blogs called the Tots100, which ranks blogs according to links but also mentions on social media platforms and comments, which can make it accessible to newer bloggers, too. It's free to join, you just need to leave a comment on my blog.
