Vicki who writes at Honest Mum joined us along with Alison Perry from Not Another Mummy Blog and Mari the BritMums editor, take a look to see what was said and let us know in the comments what your thoughts are on the subject.

To my anonymous friend: you misunderstood.

"To the extent we have even generated celebrities from people who do...essentially nothing."

refers to people who are famous for, say, sitting in a televised house for three weeks farting and swearing, say, who then become media darlings. That is people who are not famous for talent or having achieved anything much.

Maybe that could have been clearer. In any case, hope that helps.

While I am not a Royalist, these people are prominent figures in our society and, as such, will generate column inches for that fact alone.

I think, though, this vested 'interest in future monarchy' will probably act as a smoke screen to this country's obsession with celebrity. To the extent we have even generated celebrity from people who do....essentially nothing.

While my views are well known about monarchy, I feel even more strongly about privacy, and public figure or no, no-one has a 'right to know' information which would normally be only aired between the couple or family concerned.
