The Laugh! BiB Award Finalists

The Laugh! BiB Award Finalists

Some posts makes you laugh out loud. Some make you smile wryly to yourself. This award celebrates humour and wit whatever form it takes. The best of these surprise the reader with a novel take on the trials of life or an unusual viewpoint, and not much is out of bounds.

The following Laugh! BiB Award finalists continually produce work that lightens people’s days, makes them smile and brightens their hearts on a heavy day and Butlins, who are sponsoring this award, wanted to do that as well.

I think we’re all going to have a great laugh together as we check out the nominees in this Laugh Bib award, so grab a drink and settle in for a lot of tummy aching chuckling.

Are We Nearly There Yet Mummy?

In her own words:

I’m trying not to lose my marbles. I am aware that I have already mislaid some of them … one is stuck under the sofa, one in the Lego box and the 4 year old may have inadvertently swallowed the other

This blog charts my journey through motherhood, the longest journey I’ve ever taken.

We live in West Yorkshire and are a family of four during the week, and five at the weekend. Along for the ride is;

Me – I’m Laura, I work part-time (school hours) and spend the rest of my time chasing after my children. I forget how old I am all the time so I’ll just say I’m in my early 30′s, the 5 year old tells me I’m 50.

I had a right old giggle at The Potty Mouthed Wordsmith and now have the word “lefbeen” stuck in my head. We also loved the simplicity and hilarity of Rude Cherries…it’s surely not just us who finds this so funny! One of our favourite posts however is one that starts off in the Toilet Roll Aisle and ends with a heart-tugging discussion. Funny can also be touching as well and Laura is pretty gifted in this regard.

Ministry of Mum

In her own words:

I am trying to find a solution to my so-called small life since having 3 children and giving up a music industry career & then having my own shop. Some days I feel that I’m just going through the motions of motherhood and wondering where my life went wrong. Hence trying to write, it’s a sort of mummy therapy and, well, it gives me a piece of me again.

Claire’s most recent post, Mum Lies, is SO appropriate and I know for a fact, we ALL have done at least one of them in our parenting careers. I hooted and hollered over Mums I’d Like to Punch as well. I may even start my own list! Maybe we all should have a list? I’m definitely wondering how Claire’s husband will fare knowing that the children have The Revolting Switch. Please report back to us Claire!

Motherventing

In her own words:

Yo blogonauts. I did have a load of ‘personal trivia’ here but I just read back over it and realised it was utter guff. I think I was trying a bit too hard to be witty/charming/clever and failing miserably. So am going to launch myself in the opposite direction and leave you with COLD HARD FACTS instead.

  • I have a baby girl
  • I live in Bristol
  • I am in my early 30s
  • I don’t work
  • I am ever so slightly mentally wayward

And that’s it. I welcome all readers; you make me feel special and included, and I am much more likely to give in to your transient whims if you read posts/leave comments/share the love. And feel free to request the return of the utter guff. I may heed your request.

Oh Motherventing…what a perfect blog name is that! Fran, aka Motherventing, burst onto the blog scene and regularly leaves riotous laughter in her wave. Laughing WITH her of course! I love Fran’s most recent post, Blair, focusing on a HOT topic known as Cherie Blair. I have also been left with a very vivid picture in my mind of bacon and other things from Fran’s Privacy post. Ack! Finally, do check out Yummy to get to know Fran a bit better AND see her lovely nails.

Find Motherventing on Twitter (@motherventing)…she’ll never bore you!

Mummy’s Little Monkey

In her own words:

Howdy, I’m Jacqui – Mum to two lovely girls; Big Sis, born Summer 2008, and Lil Sis, born Autumn 2010. In my ‘spare’ time I’m a freelance features and travel journalist, social media advisor, Twitterholic, and professional housework dodger.

I have to say, Jacqui really has a way with words. She’s managed to turn a product review into a rather lovely & very funny post! My daughter & Big Sis could really do some wicked tricks on their scooters together. Jacqui put together a wonderful Linky feature a year or so ago. Blow Your Own Blog Horn has become uber-popular! I adored Getting Busy with the Frizzy as well…what a BIG girl Lil Sis has become.

My Funny Mummy

In her own words:

My Funny Mummy is written by me – a mind-blowingly hilarious, stonkingly intelligent and unfeasibly attractive manifestation of all things magical and modest. I’m 28. I worry about whether I’ll make 29.

I can talk. Alot. To the point that my husband’s ears have bled so profusely that I decided that for the good of my husband, my marriage, and my vocal chords I had to vent elsewhere. So this blog was born.

My Funny Mummy is a blog about being a Mum. A proper one.

The sort that spots a stain on her jeans and is delighted to discover it’s only wee.

The sort that finds herself talking to strangers about her piles.

The sort that notices a weird smell and blames it on an elderly relative.

The sort that is always late, never prepared and usually wearing odd shoes.

My Funny Mummy is the counselling session which allows me to air the daily mental torment that is my first year as an impatient, ill-equipped, non-maternal new mum.

It’s fine. I’m coping. Honest.

Oh great – my pants are on fire. Typical.

Who knew a trip to the supermarket could be so entertaining? The look on Boo’s face is priceless…mind those deathtrap trolleys though! And I’m right there with you, My Funny Mummy, on Siege d’Auto! Why on earth does something that seems relatively simple have to be do mind-numbingly difficult?! I also really felt for My Funny Mummy on her D Day post…it will get easier, or so we hear.

Northern Mum

In her own words:

Everything you need to know about Northern Mum:

I am a working mum with three lovely loud children, my twins are six years old going on fifteen and my beautiful baby will turn two this year, despite being born and bred in the north I have chosen to raise my family in the south meaning my children are incapable of pronouncing bath and grass correctly.

Before I started blogging I found myself striving for the work/life balance. I have been blogging since August 2010 and now find myself striving for the perfect work/blog/life balance….

This blog is my memory, my release and my hold onto sanity as I document, diarise and ‘humorise’ my life with small people, he who helped create them and our rabid hound.

This blog is pretty much all my own thoughts, sometimes if he is behaving I let he who helped create them pop on and write a few lines. Sometimes we review products, sometimes this blog houses sponsored posts, sometimes it is just drivel and hopefully some of the time you will leave it laughing!

Oh Northern Mum, you do speak so eloquently for us all! You know you’re a Mum when…is so very true. There’s an ongoing series in that post! I have never read a better OH MY GOD I’M PREGNANT story…My time in pubs and Tesco’s toilets is a hilarious and touching story. I was totally “watching” the scene unfold in the Northern Mum household as I read Irony and Mayhem with a touch of Sudocrem on the Cuff. Such a way with words…

You really should follow Northern Mum on Twitter (@northernmum1) and Facebook.

Not a Nottinghill Mum

In her own words:

I’m writing this for mums, and dads, everywhere – not just in West London. I pledge to keep ranting to a minimum and share any tips that I’ve picked up in my years of being a mother, which has left me with a six year old daughter and four year old son – Amelie and Alexander ( not their names but I liked the alliteration!) When I find places that really do welcome children, rather than just claiming to in Time Out, you will be the first to know. There may be a Notting Hill/ West London bias, as I spend most of my time here. But I hope this will be useful to visitors, as well as residents. And of course we do leave the area occasionally and I will always be on the look-out for good ( and bad ) experiences to share. I know I am far from alone in “Not being a Notting Hill Mum” – so I hope my thoughts will be helpful to those who stumble upon my blog whether looking for parental support – or even the Blue Door. Actually one of my first posts (It’s not blue, it’s black) includes directions to the doorway where Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts met the paparazzi, as it is still one of the questions I am most often asked when walking around the neighbourhood. There’s even a map!

Not a Nottinghill remains anonymous but also hilarious. I love Not a Nottinghill’s take on the tv coverage of Our Diamond Jubilee! It had to be a right royal pain in the arse to commentate on 4+ hours of a boat parade! Amongst the laugh inducing posts, you’ll find glorious photos from London & beyond in Not a Nottinghill’s This Moment series. Perfect. And I believe you will laugh out loud at What kids tell their teachers, as I did. FANTASTIC!

Wit Wit Woo

In her own words:

I am a recent English graduate and still can’t quite believe I managed to pull that one off! I even find myself more in love with books and words after my degree than before. Not even a year of studying Shakespeare has put me off!

Minor claims to fame include: having poetry published, the odd short story (very odd on occasion) and even a radio play about Mr Shakespeare himself. I once appeared in a Vodka advertising campaign (see ‘15 Minutes,) met Gordon Burns (the King of Krypton Factor,) and went for an audition to appear on The Apprentice.

I’ve worked in a dry cleaners, for a national newspaper and a property company in Mayfair. But what I really love to do is write. My blog is where I like to do my storytelling.

I love my daily scone, Twitter and Jill Scott. I hate margarine (with a passion,) flies and barking dogs.

I’m now the proud mother of two boys, ten years between them, and I try my best to be the best mum I can be. Doesn’t always work out as I plan but hey, I try. And then when that fails, I try again.

The Titian Goddess, Kate, aka Wit Wit Woo has been making us laugh for a while now. It takes some pretty great writing to make the Petrol game seem entertaining. And the picture that Kate painted in her Toast post was quite vivid! We can’t wait to see Kate’s M&S dresses at this year’s BiB Awards…she does some magnificent modeling in her Dress for your Body Shape lesson.

Kate can be found at Wit Wit Woo, on Twitter (@IAmWitWitWoo) and on Facebook.

Phew! I’m all laughed out. These bloggers are down right hilarious. Tune in to the BiB Awards on Friday 22 June at The Brewery to find out who will be crowned!
