The summer holidays are well and truly upon us, with many teens and tweens moving on to the next stage of their education. The summer is a time to relax, to look forward and to reflect.
When Chasing Dragonflies’ younger daughter had the ‘period talk’ at the end of primary school, it brought back some unhappy memories – because her elder daughter, who had died aged only 12, had had the period talk only two years earlier. In this moving post, she wonders whether it was puberty that triggered her daughter’s death.
The year 6 school residential is a real rite of passage for tweens as they near the end of their primary school days. Having just waved my sons off on Scout camp for a week, I can really relate to how Wife Mum Student Bum is feeling.
Another rite of passage is leaving primary school – an emotional time for children and parents. Done Gallivanting writes about it so honestly, and her son’s poem about the experience is well worth a read!
The first year of secondary school can be a challenge – it’s a worrying time for both parents and children. I love this post from 3 Children and It, about her tween daughter’s time in year 7. It’s such a positive post and she has really thrived in her first year.
Teens, tweens and their hobbies can be expensive! Over at MumofThree World I’ve been weighing up the costs of my daughter’s endless dance lessons with my two boys’ Scout camps. If you haven’t got kids doing lots of activities yet, it’s time to take out a second mortgage in preparation!
It’s the time of year for school holidays, as the 40 Year Old Domestic Goddess describes waving goodbye to her teenage son – and then getting the best text ever! That’s really not the sort of text you expect to get from a teenage boy.
Have a laugh with 29 Year Old Mama, who is learning what she totes shouldn’t say, right, because it embarrasses her teen. All the more reason to say it, right?
I love this post from Barbie Bieber and Beyond on lessons dads can teach their daughters, to help them keep a bond as their girls reach their teenage years. She says dads shouldn’t just leave all the work to the mums just because they’re girls, which seems to be a very sensible view!
I think anyone who has tweens and teens knows they can be pretty untidy and not an awful lot of help around the house. So I love Teen Tween Toddle’s system for getting her older children to do some jobs. I might be copying this one!
I think we can all relate to Izzie Anderton and her post on feeling like the hired help, who should also be telepathic. She wishes just once her family could keep the place tidy and let her know of their plans in advance. Her daughters are 19, there’s no hope for the rest of us!
Zena from Zena’s Suitcase is struggling with keeping her 16 year old son busy over the holiday, as well as his relationship with her husband. It’s a lot to juggle when you’ve also got a baby and a toddler! Does anyone have any advice for her?
That’s about all for this month. If you blog about teens and tweens and have a post to share, please add it to the linky below. See you next month!
