Teen and Tween Round-up: Teen and tween speak

The GCSEs are fast approaching, not to mention the A Levels, the AS Levels and the Y6 SATs. It’s a stressful time of year for teens and their parents. But they still find time to confuse us with their strange language!

Here’s what our teens and tweens have been up to over the last couple of months…

It’s totes legit to use ‘ball sacks’ as it isn’t a swear word. Over at Stressy Mummy, Nikki is desperately trying to translate tween language. Are you fluent in tween?

Know your squad goals from your swag? Are you looking on fleek? (Clue – you won’t be, it’s just not possible… ) Yep, there’s more nonsense-speak over at Sounding Like My Mother, where the teens are talking their own special language…

And if you’re still confused by the teen-speak – here’s one final dictionary in blog form for you from Just Saying Mum. We should all be fluent now, right?

A first waxing for her teenage daughter and being Swaggy AF – Kerrie at Wife, Mum, Student Bum tells it as it is about raising a teen girl.

Think toddlers are messy and careless? They don’t get any better as teens and tweens, as this funny, but beautiful post from Tara at Sticky Fingers reminds us. We just have to take a deep breath and be patient!

This post from Mother in the Middle at Touchline Dad on mothering a teenage son is gorgeous. I can relate perfectly as I’m going through just the same right now. All of a sudden, they are bigger than you, look like men and are forever asking family members to hit them!

Sadly, teenage boys (and teenage girls too, I’m sure) can be a bit ignorant of others’ feelings. Over at MumofThree World, I’m struggling with a teenage son who seems determined to break his younger brother and sister.

There’s a lot of tough bits to parenting teenagers, but, in a brave and uncharacteristic move, Suzanne at 3 Children and It reminds us of all the awesome bits too – how do uninterrupted baths, no need for babysitters and never seeing 6am all sound to you?

One of the not-so-awesome bits is being completely unable to watch my own TV. Yes, over at MumofThree World I have lost all control of the remote. Does this happen to anyone else?

I love this post from Extraordinary Chaos as her biggest boy takes his mock exams and she looks forward to his future education and career. It’s a scary time for teens and parents alike!

Talking of exams, the GCSEs are very nearly upon us, but it’s not too late to pick up some new revision techniques. Chelsea Mamma has some great tips, which I will be sharing with my own son next year.

There can’t be many parents of teens who don’t have some struggles with behaviour. I love Anita’s behaviour contract at Thinking Parenting as I way of rewarding teens for good behaviour. This is definitely something I’m going to consider for both my teen and my nearly-teen!

Best Dad I Can Be has been writing about his kids for 13 years. He recently did a talk about the experience with his youngest son. I love the way this post proves teens really can step up when they need to.

When our babies are born, we think they will be with us forever. We can’t imagine them starting school, let alone doing GCSEs or learning to drive. But they do grow up and eventually they leave home. Suzanne at Chicken Ruby has been there, done that and got the Tshirt. Here she shares what it’s like when the kids leave home.
