Does anyone blog in August?

hello its gemmaI have a confession, in August I am the worst blogger. Does anyone blog in August? Of course, they do. Don’t they? Having largely failed to visit other blogs (as a good blogger should) I’ve very little idea. Is anyone reading this? *knocks on screen*. I’m rubbish at blogging in August. It’s my ‘slow’ month, I do the minimum.

In my defence, we have been away, there was very little network coverage and actually, I really like that. I try, when I’m on holiday, to put down my phone and be a bit more “in the moment” and therefore disconnected from the internet. I’ve been meaning to share our holiday experiences but here’s the thing, in the school holidays I just don’t seem to find the time. Anytime on the blog or the internet is snatched.

The house is littered with things that make me wince, ie. things I should have done and failed to because we are out or away or if here, I seem to be either in the kitchen or playing a significant role in whatever my 6 year old is living today. Yesterday, it was wildlife parks. Many emergency calls to the snake keeper about escaped snakes. Do Longleat have this problem? By the end of the day, I just want to do nothing, a bit knackered from emergency calls into pretend walkie talkies and over-acting each time I found an escaped snake and I only have one child!

In the Venn diagram of blogging, there is a the circle with blogging in it; connection to the internet, which works best within four walls, the computer, the writing, the time and space to write, the reading and commenting on other blogs. All that stuff. Then there is the circle of life in the summer; outdoors, entertaining children, the demands of children, more things going on, longer days. Obviously, there needs to be an over-lap, blogging needs “life” that is its fodder. For me the Venn diagram of summer and blogging just don’t over lap very well. I’m writing this at 6 am, just to get it done. A couple of years ago, I’d be watching Cbeebies at 6 am and preparing cereal. Luckily, it’s tiring being a snake keeper. I aim for a balance and I’m OK with peering at social media on my phone when we are at home and the TV is on, or the Lego is out and the sky is a bit grey. When the sky is blue and the sun is warm, I want to be outside and then it seems churlish to be staring at a phone.

Is it just me? Do you blog over the summer? How do you find the time?

Can I also apologize for all the emails and comments I haven’t replied to. I really meant to, but an anaconda escaped and the trouble we had getting him back…….

I actually relaunch my blog in Aug. It has also inspired to to do at least 4 blog posts a week, where as before I was doing 1 a week. I didn't blog during the day though I waited until the babies were in bed and the it was my down time. I felt so much more organises because of it.

I have, tried to take a "blog every day in August" challenge but couldn't keep it up after a week. But I loved blogging in August and missed it the days I didn't.xx

I've managed the blog everyday in November challenge - I loved it too but it is so hard to keep it up. You are not alone!

Fortunately, Summer doesn't change anything for me yet because baby girl is only 5 months old :) If anything I probably feel more stimulated in the Summer!

Thanks for the comment, it's good to know there are lots of differences out there!

I do blog in August, but I feel like I'm the only one! I think I only had two days off. I did take things more slowly - less linkies, less reading and commenting, but I just love writing! And I think if I'm writing it, I might as well post it. I've had less views, but that hasn't bothered me. Writing is just a good way to unwind after a busy day, or a boring one! I know it's not for everyone (or most people, in fact), but it works for me.

If you love it, do it. 2 days off - I am impressed.
