There was no debate about what this month’s topic should be. With the BiB awards this Friday, it was only right to showcase the 6 finalists in the Style category. It’s a great achievement, given the original long list of nominations and the impressive short list, so well done to all the finalists.
First up, it’s Kat over at Does My Bum Look 40. The blog is hardly 18 months old and already Kat’s achieved over 1 million page hits and had her first magazine cover on Essentials this month! Testament to the hard work she puts into her blog and the appeal it has amongst the stylish mums out there. I’ve personally been endlessly inspired by Kat. She mixes high street with designer and mixes & matches her wardrobe effortlessly. Oh and she’s a hilarious writer too…every post is so entertaining.
Love Chic Living is the creation of Jen, who is an interiors and design lover. Her blog is a visual treat – the colours, the patterns, the beauty! I’m a big fan particularly of her ‘Wallpaper Wednesday’ as I’m a huge fan of gorgeous wall design. Every week, she tempts me with amazing prints that make me instantly want to get the steamer out! What I love about Jen’s blog is the diversity of the content, from cars to house design, vintage to modern, high end to affordable high street. If you’re an interiors and design fan, you’ll want to follow this blog.
Next it’s The Baby Wears Prada – one seriously cute blog! Written by a clearly gifted toddler called Lucie (ok, so it’s ghost written by her mum but I have a sneaking suspicion it won’t be long before Liz can hand over to her gorgeous little lady), it’s a record of the beautiful and stylish clothing that this fashionista in the making wears every day. As a mum of two girls, I find it endlessly useful but it’s also a delightful blog to read with gorgeous photos and there are always a few more unusual brands featured – great if you want some outfit inspiration for a special occasion.
I’ve followed Melaina at Transatlantic Blonde since I started blogging last year myself. An American girl living in Scotland since 2004, it’s a record of her life in the city of Glasgow. She’s a mum of 1 and a super busy girl – I’m amazed she has time to blog! The best bit of Melaina’s blog is her Wednesday linky – What I Wore Wednesday. It’s a genius way to share some blogging love. Melaina posts what she wears and other bloggers can link up to their outfits below her post. Gives everyone lots of wardrobe inspiration for the week ahead and generates valuable page hits too. I really admire Melaina for this – it’s a wonderful way to reach out to other bloggers.
Vintage Folly is one of those blogs that the first time you find it, you need to make space in your day to read back over every post. Rachel is gifted – a craft loving, stylish girl whose blog is just beautiful to look at, a pleasure to read and oh the pictures! I love the mix of style posts, crafts, books and cookery, to name just a few. Hours, I tell you – you’ll not want to stop reading! I adore her writing style – she’s almost shy about the success her blog has had and how good she is. No need for that – it’s a fab example of blogging success for any newbie.
Finally…lil old me got a place in the final 6 too! Seriously chuffed I have to say. It’s my second year making the finals and I know it’s a cliche, but it’s an amazing achievement to make it this far two years in a row. School Gate Style has been a surreal journey for me. In just over a year, I’ve exceeded 1 million page hits – seriously – wow! Wow because I’m not a fashion expert, not a stylist. Just a busy mum who tries every day to make an effort with how I dress and hopefully achieves my ultimate goal of helping other busy mums in the same boat. But like most mum bloggers, it’s a wonderful outlet – a way to make friends and gain writing experience. I’m so glad I started mine.
So there you go – what a category, what a final selection! Each one of these great blogs is amazing and would be a worthy and deserved winner. The best bit is that it’s not really about the winning as much as getting everyone together on the night and celebrate our blog success. Because that’s what Britmums is for me – making friends, sharing best practices and having fun!
Well done to all the BiBs finalists on making it this far – see you on the night! x
