Spring Fundraising Ideas for Schools and Clubs

The word “Fundraising” is almost unique in its ability to elicit groans of irritation from some and gasps of excitement from others. Parents, teachers and club leaders everywhere are charged with the sleepless-night-inducing task of thinking of that most elusive of fundraising ideas – “something different”.

In truth, some of the tried and tested methods can be real money spinners. Bring and buy sales, raffles, cake sales and fetes are all trusty methods handed down through the generations. But if it’s all sounding a bit dated, there are other ventures that can make money and be enjoyable for everyone taking part – even the organisers.

The Golden Ticket

For a simple fundraising idea, a Golden Ticket in a product can raise a decent amount of cash and is minimum fuss for all involved. This is typically a Wonka-style competition in which a golden ticket is hidden inside the wrapper of a bar of chocolate, with the prize(s) having been donated by local businesses (some of which may be parents!).

Spring Fashion Show

Fashion Shows – especially a Spring/Summer event – in which teenagers make their own designs and stage the event are a great way to encourage creativity and project management skills. Ticket sales are not the only way to collect funds; the final event could have a mobile photographer producing prints of each student for parents to buy at the end. There are also possibilities to incorporate sales of cakes, coffee and mocktails. The events model can also be used for younger children, perhaps for an art show or a circus.



Get Creative

Tile or tea towel painting can be a great money-spinner and a lovely artistic exercise for children. Get them to paint a self-portrait or a family picture and have a little exhibition at the school where parents can come along and purchase their child’s artwork. There is plenty of opportunity for a cake and coffee sale at the exhibition too.

Pool Party

Hiring a pool for a couple of hours for a children’s party is a great alternative to a fair. Tickets can be sold on a family basis. This type of fundraiser is a great way to encourage families to get together, which in turn creates a network of parents for the next event.

In Bloom – Spring Flowers

Getting students to plant seeds and shrubs in springtime and have a sale for the local community is a great way to get kids of all ages to learn a bit about gardening, while selling a product that will appeal not only to parents, but the wider community too.
