This month I’ve been thinking a lot about the “public persona” we put across on social media. A friend complained to me that I keep “showing off” about how great my life is on Facebook, but the reality is that I just don’t want to dwell on any negativity so I’d rather only show the positive. I loved this post from A Playful Day about living life “through a lens” – a very thought provoking read.
Hannah at Hannah Spannah has been writing about what it’s like to have a mammogram. It’s an account of something that probably strikes fear into most of us, and she explains exactly what happens when you have to go for one. A very interesting read, as it’s not at all what I had expected a mammogram to be.
On a completely different note, Melissa McGovern has been writing about using her knowledge of hypnotherapy to help her five year old get to sleep. I’m taking notes if I’m honest; what parent doesn’t need more options in their bag of tricks when it comes to getting children to sleep!
At this time of year, lots of parents are sitting anxiously, waiting for news of primary school placements. Personally, I was awake at 3am refreshing the local council website! Now that we know which school our children will go to… we have to think about the terrifying prospect of them actually going to Big School! I loved this post fom Bek at Dillydrops about her daughter starting school and how things will change. But I’m still inclined to put my fingers in my ears and sing “lalalaaaa, she’s still my baby!”
And finally, Martyn at Inside Martyn’s Thoughts has been learning about tastes with his sons, who he home schools. I love this post not because it has anything to do with being a single parent – but perhaps because it has nothing to do with being a single parent! Being a single parent doesn’t mean that you only think, talk and blog about being a single parent; we also just do the everyday parenting things. And Martyn home schools on top of that as well as having Muscular Dystrophy.
I love to use this round-up to showcase single parent bloggers and the posts they have published over the course of the month. If you’re a single parent blogger and you’d like to be included please feel free to email me a link to vicky@smahoy.com.
About Vicky Charles
Vicky is a 35 year old single mother with a cheeky 4 year old. She lives in Wiltshire and works as a freelance writer and trainer in blogging and social media. She has been a single mother since her daughter was 2 weeks old, and started blogging to try and give voice to her feelings of “lost-at-sea-ness” that all mothers get, but that single mothers often don’t have any company in. In her spare time, she usually develops addictions to dvd box sets and sometimes cleans the living room… but not often.
