This month we’ve had summer solstice, some sunshine, some rain, and Fathers’ Day – which can be a tricky time for single parents. Still, we’ve a great round-up of posts for you this month which will hopefull make you think and make you smile.
Hannah Spannah has been writing about her co-parenting journey, which has been long and heavy going for her and her son. This post makes me so glad it’s not something I have to deal with; what a traumatic experience.
I loved this post from Inside Martyn’s Thoughts about not being a deadbeat dad. It’s easy to draw lines and simiplify things: the feckless single mother, the deadbeat absent fahter. This post proves how wrong those assumptions can be – as does Martyn’s entire blog! It’s easy and tempting to put people and situations into neat little boxes, but that serves nobody.
I absolutely loved this post from Amy at Full Time Family Time; I could have written it myself. I understand why the law was changed to allow a father named on a birth certificate to have parental responsibility… but I also completely get where Amy is coming from. There’s a bif difference between someone who pays maintenance, and someone who is a father. The subject of this post is the very reason someone like Martyn has to fight to prove he’s a great dad all the time.
To leave on a more positive note, here’s a post from More Than Toast about her first family holiday as a single parent. Having recently taken my daughter away for a weekend, I’m interested to see how this one went!
About Vicky Charles
Vicky is a 35 year old single mother with a cheeky 4 year old. She lives in Wiltshire and works as a freelance writer and trainer in blogging and social media. She has been a single mother since her daughter was 2 weeks old, and started blogging to try and give voice to her feelings of “lost-at-sea-ness” that all mothers get, but that single mothers often don’t have any company in. In her spare time, she usually develops addictions to dvd box sets and sometimes cleans the living room… but not often.

Single motherhood can be so challenging at times but the experiences from it are enjoyable
