I’m wondering if it’s me, but there does seem to be a lot of shop closures recently. It’s sad when it happens of course; I was pretty gutted when we lost Woolies and BHS as I used to shop there all the time.
BHS were particularly good at offering varying leg length trousers – a godsend when you’re vertically challenged like me and the knees on ‘standard’ trousers end up midway down my shins; hence why I’m very picky about where I buy my trousers – I can’t afford to get them altered every time I buy a new pair!
I digress. More recently we’ve seen Maplin and Toys R Us go into administration, while other High Street shops, including New Look, M&S and Carphone Warehouse, have all announced some store closures.
Another one is Poundworld, which went into administration in June, with stores closing earlier this month, resulting in the loss of just over 5,000 jobs.
However, rumour has it that a company in Ireland (which carries the same name funnily enough), is rescuing it. I do hope that’s the case!
But when Poundworld announced it had launched its closing down sales, I hot-footed it to the nearest one to see what bargains I could pick up – have a watch of my mega haul! Plus you get a sneak peek of my baby rabbits too!
The other day I also popped into Primark to see what was new in store; I had managed to avoid a visit for a good couple of months, but I couldn’t resist it at the weekend as a friend dragged me in.
It’s not that I don’t like Primark of course, quite the opposite; I avoid going so that I don’t end up buying up half the store!
Adam from The Daddy Life is also a fan of ‘Primani’ as I like to call it, picking up various bits and pieces for his daughter Daisy.
Amongst his bargain finds were Disney and Harry Potter clothes and accessories, with some of them, reduced even more from their original price.
In another one of his vlogs, he picked up various goodies from The Disney Store, TKMaxx and IKEA, with the retro napkin holder being something that I’ve been looking for a while now! Great find!
If you’re anything like me, you’ll be counting down the days until the kids are back at school and you can get back into a routine.
And this year I vowed to get the ‘Back to School’ shopping done early as I always seem to be in one mad rush in the last week of August.
I know I’m not the only one too; Clarks is full of stressed out parents the day before September arrives trying to sort out their kids’ footwear!
Top tip: Don’t do this as the next thing you’ll have to contend with is blisters galore: get the shoes mid-way through the summer so they can start wearing them in around the house!
So it looks like most of us have made a start on the usual back to school items – uniform, book bags, stationery, shoes etc
Michelle from Mummy From The Heart got some fab stationery for her girls from STABILO, while Brummy Mummy of 2 picked up a Poundland stationery haul with some gorgeous Monochrome and Rose Gold buys, as well as some fab kids’ gear.
A point to make about uniform shopping; with most uniform shops competing with the supermarkets – and even places like Poundland – it’s worth doing a spot of comparison shopping before you decide on your purchases.
It’s great to save money and buy cheap, but bear in mind the quality might not be so great – an important factor when you’re buying for kids who will wear them out super quick!
I’m back in September and I’ll be checking out your latest fashion buys as the weather starts cooling down. Boooooo!
