Positively Inspirational Round-Up: Riding waves

How are you getting along with your Christmas preparations? I’m guessing most of you are pretty busy this time of the year, even so you should still try to make some time for yourself. Grab a cuppa, put your feet up and let me share with you some fabulous blog posts that have touched or inspired me from the past month.

Kicking off this month we have Maddy from ‘The Speed Bump’. An inspirational young woman, who against all the odds worked really hard and completed her degree, even though she fell pregnant with her first child at the beginning of her second year. Maddy tells us “Two years ago, I told my parents that this pregnancy wasn’t a stop sign, it was a speed bump in the road. Little did I know at the time that it was less speed bump and more unexpected-diversion-onto-a-rollercoaster...” and that “if my time at university has taught me anything, it’s that sometimes, the speed bumps in the road are what make us want to push ourselves, to aim higher, and to know that anything is possible.” Such a positive post. Well Done Maddy!

As I prep for Christmas my mind wanders back to when my four kids were all small, out come the dusty old home video’s of Christmases gone by and I can’t help but feel a pang of longing. Longing to be that young Mum again with a house full of noisy kids. Tara from Sticky Fingers shared a lovely post last week, ‘I Don’t Want A Quiet House‘ and it really struck a chord with me. The kids grow up so fast and before you know it they have all packed up and left home and the house becomes so quiet. I’d love to have all the noise back again.

A post that Links in really well to Tara’s post is Sian from ‘Potty Mouthed Mummy’ as she tells us about an emotional conversation with a stranger on a train while she was sitting with her sleeping Son on her lap. He made a comment saying “You don’t know how lucky you are” explaining that he thought she was so lucky to still be able to hold him in her arms, because when they grow up the hugs are not as easy to come by. I remember when I was younger and people making similar comments to me, and now I’m in my mid forties and the kids have outgrown their hugs, I get what all those comments really mean.

Changing the subject a little bit and switching our thoughts to our Grandparents, I read a great post from a lovely new blog ‘Teddy Bears And Cardigans’ reminding us about the importance of asking our Grandparents questions before it is too late. I lost my Mum in 2006, then I lost my last remaining Grandparent in 2011 and I still have so many questions left unanswered about their lives. Asking questions about our family history is important and drafting up a list is a great idea.

I’ll leave you this month with a post from ‘Morgan Prince’ called ‘Learning To Surf The Waves Of Life‘. Morgan explains “You need to find your surfboard and learn to ride those waves. It doesn’t matter if they’re little waves that you glide over, or tidal waves that could knock you off that board, you have to find a way to keep going.” No matter what life throws at us we need to keep going and ride that wave until life settles down once again, which it always does.
