Hope you have all been enjoying the brighter weather? I love this time of year, mainly because I can potter in the garden and enjoy the occasional BBQ with my family and neighbours. I am in the middle of an open university degree and I have just handed in my last assignment of this school year, so I can now fully relax until October and make the most of the summer. I have lots of plans for the coming months; summer birthday parties, a bedroom makeover, long coastal walks, picnics, Camp Bestival and I’m planning on reading tons of poetry (any poetry book recommendations would be gratefully received) while chilling in the garden.
Talking of getting ready for the summer, like a lot of us I have been trying to get my body ready for the beach. I have lost two stone since January and I feel great, although not quite ready for a bikini, mainly because my confidence is still pretty low. I read Kate’s post from Wit Wit Woo ‘I Wore A Bikini And Liked It‘ and felt so empowered. I love that she says “I get that we’re so indoctrinated with the idea that we should look a certain way, that we should feel embarrassed or ashamed if we don’t conform – I totally get that because I’m bombarded too. I just choose to stick a metaphorical two fingers up to the fat-shaming brigade and do what I WANT TO DO. If that involves wearing a bikini when I’m a size 18, so be it.”. How great does Kate look and her words really have encouraged me to slip into that bikini that I have buried at the bottom of my wardrobe.
So many of us have felt inspired after reading a blog post, it is one of the things that I love about blogging, the sharing of information that has the ability to motivate action. My world has most definitely been enriched by blogging, and in lots of ways it has changed my life. Aby over at ‘You Baby Me Mummy‘ has written a post in collaboration with ten other bloggers, each sharing their stories of how blogging has changed their lives.
Another thing I love about blogging is reading about the ordinary moments. Keri-Ann from the gorgeous ‘Gingerlily Tea‘ reminds us about recording the everyday moments in our lives that quite often get overlooked. I often say that I wish blogging was around when my four kids were small, so I could read back on the ordinary moments of family life. Reading Keri-Anne’s post then lead me to the Ordinary Moments linky over at Katie’s blog ‘ Mummy Daddy Me’ who says “The simple things in life are often the sweetest. While the fancy days out, weekends away or holidays are fun, it’s the ordinary moments I will miss when my children are all grown up. The snuggling in bed reading a story. The giggles as they run around my overgrown garden with the grass that desperately needs a cut. Even the naughty ones. The ones we all have.”
Our kids childhoods fly by in the blink of an eye. I remember thinking when mine were small that I couldn’t wait to see what they were all going to be like as adults and now they have flown the nest I yearn to have them small again. 40ish Year Old Domestic Goddess shares an emotional post about her Daughter Amelia going off to university in four months time. A bittersweet post that had me wiping away a tear.
I hope you have enjoyed this months round-up and I hope you all have a blast over summer. Can’t wait to read what you all get up to.
Lots of Love,
