Politics Round-up; Budgets and benefits.

Morning. Or Afternoon. Evening even, if that is more relevant to you. It has been quite the month in the political world, so I won’t dally, but dive straight in. Lets tackle the biggie first. Baroness Thatcher died this week. A momentous event that has seen her as divisive in death as she was in life. Love her or loathe her, her impact was enormous and for that reason there will be a special Politics Round-up dedicated to your posts on the subject next week.

Even that event aside it has been a busy month politically. The Budget happened. I don’t think anyone liked it very much, not even George Osborne I should imagine, on account of everyone having a good moan at him for being so wrong about everything. My Post of the Month award goes to Not My Year Off and this amazing response to Mr Osborne. Oh Mammy fills us in on some of the finer details. City Girl Gone Coastal looked at how greatly people’s perspectives differ depending on the budgets affect on them. I took a dislike to the term ‘Aspiration Nation’ and took them on at their own rhyming game. On a wider topic, but using poetry to a greater effect was Louise from Nearly Nice World with the wonderfully angry ‘Coalition Spring’

Changes to benefits hit nerves too. A google hangout was held between a few esteemed bloggers, and can be viewed here on youtube. Inspired by watching the hangout, Chelsea Mamma wrote about what she sees as a skewed system, and Live Otherwise reflects on the question they didn’t cover. Nickie from Typecast, another of the hangouts participants, looks at the realities of trying to live on benefits using the direct experience of her son. Mummy Barrow takes a stern look at some of the press coverage of the recent Philpott trial, and the implication that being on benefits bore relevance to the tragic tale.
