Photo Blog Round-up: Autumn

The great thing about the autumn is that it makes us all want to pick up our cameras and explore our inner Ansel Adams. I have enjoyed trawling the net to see what all the mummy bloggers have been doing to celebrate the change of seasons. In fact, I did my own post about how to improve your blog photography in the autumn and showed loads of examples of my shoots with Baby from last year and this year. (It was my first linky, too. I felt ridiculously overexcited at this).

Before I get started with highlighting posts, I thought it would be nice to look at some truly amazing autumnal photographs or “40 Crazy Awesome Autumn Pictures” as the post is called. I think these were obviously taken in the States where there is an actual sect of the travel industry called “Foliage Tourism” (or leaf chasers). If you think autumn looks good here, you should go to Maine!

First off on our own BritMums Foliage tour is Mummykimmy’s Blog and her post “Autumn Balm”. When the going gets tough, nothing soothes her soul like a little walk in the colourful woods. It’s amazing how nature can so easily help us to restore our inner calm.

Adventures of a Yorkshire Mummy got down with her crafty side in “Autumn Play and Artwork” and turned a walk through the leaves into an art project for the kids. What a great way to help your children appreciate the beauty of the season.

Speaking of crafty, I also loved Rainy Day Mum’s “Making Blackberry Playdough and Autumn Blog Hop”. She illustrates the simple (?!) process of making some squishy coloured playdough for the kids and the blog hop also contains lots of other crafty links for the craft-inclined.

In “When Dada Goes Away” on Chloe Witters, she uses images of walking the woods with her son and husband to illustrate a heartfelt piece about how she is worried about her husband’s upcoming business trip to Africa and taking care of her son alone in his absence. I like how the photostory isn’t directly related to the topic, but it still adds to the overall effect of the piece.

Last but not least is Two Become Four’s “Autumn: The year’s last loveliest smile”. She photographs a walk in the woods with her children. The reason I’ve picked this post is that I love that she remembered to get the details, too: the atmosphere of the silent wood, the leaves and the close-up of the muddy boots. These kind of pictures are great, especially if you are planning to make a book of your shoot (which you should, as I talk about in The Year One Project for Bob Books).
