Newbie Tuesday Round-up: A woman’s work

Well it’s been a crazy weekend, as we have all braved the great British Summer weather to insist on having some fun in the name of a Royal Jubilee Bank Holiday! Nothing defeats us, does it? I have read so many posts this month from brilliant parents going through all sorts of hell and stress, but they still keep coming back and blogging about it, reaching out to us and making bonds. Here are some of my favourites from the newer bloggers. And there are loads more  on the BritMums New to Blogging group – go check them out and say hi.

Stressy Mummy wants a pause button. Don’t we all occasionally (or at least every morning in my case)! Well this week she is all by herself, and loving it.  Now I, no matter how much I long for solitude, would spend the entire time fretting and wishing I was with my family – how about that for wasted freedom?? Actually Daddy has been away this week, leaving me with just the kids. Remarkably, we get along fine, easing into a groove, no mayhem, and far less washing. I was even beginning to imagine that it was easier without a bloke around. Then I read a pearl of wisdom that made me think again. Now I can’t wait to see him walk through the airport gate and have his chaos back in our lives!

Being a confirmed “never again will I put myself through pregnancy and projectile vomiting years” kind of parent, I am guilty of not catering to those whose focus is on those precious and exciting months before you meet your baby. But this post by They Grow So Quick had me almost contemplating another Bug or Buguette just for the maternity fashion! On the other side of the fence is a newer blogger who never fails to make me laugh. This week sees her ditching the maternity wardrobe as she heads back to work – reluctantly!

Here’s a post to cause some controversy. You know all those statistics about the glass ceiling, and inequality in the Boardroom? Well, Johnson Babies will no doubt ruffle some feathers with her question: What’s the best job for a woman? Do we struggle for acceptance in senior roles, or do we choose to opt out of such opportunities? *Ahem* Hands up who thinks their brains have turned to mush since having a baby? Anyone feel less confident than in their pre-baby hey-day? Well I delivered my first training session in 9 years last week, and you know what? I rocked it! All those of you who tweet, if you think you know nothing, think again! You know digital marketing. And if you don’t – Mother.Wife.Me has a great how to use Twitter post 😉

I couldn’t finish a blog post today without some reference to the Jubilee festivities, and oh boy, have I seen some incredible party action on the blogs this weekend! Mummy Rates It braved the downpours and hung out in London for a soggy Jubilee – but there are smiles in every picture! And what about all the school parties??? Several parents put me to shame with their home-made contributions – but not Making it as Mum – or should that be Faking it? I leave you with a question: why are my children bouncing off the walls? Is it because it rained so much that we stayed home and baked a Jubilee Cake? 😈
