Whether you are looking for some winter sunshine, or a summer of fun, Spain has plenty to offer families of all ages and sizes, with secluded beaches, historic castles and plenty of adventure.
Here at BritMums we’ve been reminiscing about the lasting memories we’ve created in Spain and invited our readers during a Twitter chat to share their memories of Spain in a Twitter conversation that we had with Visit Spain. (This post is sponsored by Spain.)
Your favourite places in Spain
Spain is a huge country, filled with beautiful and magical places to visit. We asked you where your favourite destinations to visit in Spain were and they spanned a wide range of activities and places, from taking in the pleasure of a crystal clear pool to culture that kids actually enjoy. @dkjrax says the cave of Drach in Porto Cristo, Majorca are ‘Amazing!’ whilst @StephsTwoGirls is longing to take her daughters to Barcelona to experience the gorgeous architecture, bustling friendly environment, beach and delicious food!
Some of our favourite travel bloggers joined in with their suggestions too:
Lanzarote is one of my favourites – the volcanic landscape is just so different and seeing Timanfaya is like being on another planet, there are vineyards, a pirate museum, golden sand in Playa Blanca, amazing seafood, art & culture. I can go on 😀 #spainfamilyholidays

SpainFamilyHolidays memories
You shared some amazing holiday memories through your tweets. We loved looking through all the photos and hearing your stories, from Flashpacking Family‘s little one taking his first steps in Tenerife, Mini Travellers eldest daughter learning to swim in Lanzarote and Are We Nearly There Yet‘s children, boarding their very first cruise ship.
You even made up your own names for the places you visited.
#SpainFamilyHolidays I took my 3 children to Lanzarote (we call Lanzarote, ‘Shake Your Botty🥳’) a few years back. We were joined by 2 other families. Every day we were by the beach or the swimming pool or a day outing. In the evening we’d go somewhere delicious to eat every night

There is plenty to see for sports fans too, with some of the biggest and best football teams in the world, some stunning golf courses, and one the oldest Formula One race tracks in the world.
That’s an awesome memory. I’ve been to the track and it’s brilliant. I’m not even an F1 fan 😂 #SpainFamilyHolidays pic.twitter.com/VOROHHcpu2

The Festivals
Spain has lively and passionate culture and is famous for some wonderful traditional festivals, each with a completely unique vibe. Some festivals are celebrated by the whole country, like the Three Kings, or others by individual towns and villages. Definitely check to see if the area you are visiting is celebrating anything during your holiday as these spectacles are not to be missed.
A1: Watching the kids watching the Cabalgata De Reyes on the eve of Three Kings Day. It’s such a lovely parade. The characters throw sweets to the kids. It’s such a magic night followed by fireworks that it makes my eyes a little watery pic.twitter.com/P6JXVA8O63

We were in Salou as they celebrated their Independence day in 2019, what a cultural delight!
The canons certainly gave us a scare! #SpainFamilyHolidays pic.twitter.com/pElIqo3Tex

The food and drink
From tasty tapas to superb seafood, sangria to sherry, food and drink in Spain is all about making the most of the best fresh local produce and our readers enjoy trying out what was on offer.
I’ve had lots of amazing Spain holidays with the family. The first one in 2010 was to Barcelona. Museu Blau was a highlight and my baby boy loved black rice at the tapas bars! #SpainFamilyHolidays pic.twitter.com/t3TataZM3c

We also chose to eat in some off-the-beaten track restaurants. One evening the waiter didn’t speak English & we can’t speak Spanish so we had to guess what the meals on the menu were (which was great fun!) & we ended up with the most delicious food! #SpainFamilyHolidays pic.twitter.com/Sif26HfNsP

Families missed the food so much that they even tried their hand at recreating Spanish cuisine back home!
My daughter was sad when we came home, so I made her a Spanish themed lunchbox for school! #SpainFamilyHolidays pic.twitter.com/szlizBjVTx

Activities
With a whole host of attractions as varied as water sports (including whitewater rafting, kayaking, banana boating, waterskiing), endless cycle paths, volcanoes, caves, national parks, family resorts, historic castles and golden sandy beaches, your favourite activities have got us longing for some sun.
We love the beach and water sports 🏖️😍 especially paddleboarding #spainfamilyholidays pic.twitter.com/acmbPHdBNq

One of my favourite things about Spain is that while you get the sun, the beautiful beaches, the amazing tapas, there are so many unusual things to discover – a rum distillery, a cave restaurant in a mountain and huge sand dunes in Gran Canaria, for example. #spainfamilyholidays pic.twitter.com/ynihqu8LDI

Off the beaten track
There are so many beautiful locations to visit in Spain which often get overlooked in favour of more well-known towns and cities. Here are some hidden gems to add to your must-visit list.
@Dianestar17 recommends Coasta del la Luz, whose main town Cadiz is a real gem and often overlooked, whilst @BJsurreyJ recommends Fuengirola with its sun-kissed beach, beautiful square and church up in the hills and the whitewashed village of Mijas.
If visiting somewhere with a bit of history is more your thing, Zena’s Suitcase enjoyed Menorca, where her kids enjoyed exploring the historic ruins. @IamYogaJess loved their trip to Seville last year. They spent hours walking around seeing all the sights and especially the Plaza de Espana.
We saw a hidden island just off Fuerteventura next to a volcano where just 1 woman lived with her family. Apparently she catches the fish and serves them in their restaurant which has the best seafood on the island. There was loads of history there. #SpainFamilyHolidays pic.twitter.com/FSkt5iXYGF

Riding the mountain train from Palma to Soller! The views were incredible. The train is really old (the orange one in the picture) but it was such a good experience, especially for kids! Soller is stunning too! We forgot our swimwear, but still had a dip! It was lovely. pic.twitter.com/67gUzxShTP
