Lessons we’ve learnt this week

Love means never having to say you’re sorry. It’s another story with blogging.

Over the weekend we enforced our BritMums member rules regarding competitors.

What can we say? We got it wrong, and we wholeheartedly apologise. In retrospect we can see that because we’ve been working hard developing the new BritMums we got perhaps a bit too “mother lion with her cub” about it. We realised that the initial decision to remove members and that our definitions of “competitor” needed to be more in line with the evolving blogging landscape. We’ve apologised to those involved and invited them back to BritMums.

To be clear, we have always encouraged BritMums members to join all kinds of networks. We applaud sites that highlight bloggers and help more readers find them. We don’t consider membership in BritMums to be mutually exclusive of other networks and hope you’ll look at it this way too.

If you’re one of the bloggers who expressed constructive criticism about the initially “banning” (we hate this word but it seems to be the convenient and accepted term), thank you for questioning a decision that needed a rethink.

If you’re one of the bloggers who got in touch expressing support, thank you for acknowledging that it’s not always easy forging a path ahead.

If you haven’t heard anything about it until now, let this post stand as affirmation that we will always do our best – with your help – to encourage the positives of blogging: learning, growing, evolving and supporting one another.

In the end, we are everyday mums, and we are used to acknowledging the mistakes we make with our kids. When it comes to our baby BritMums, we're happy to admit we’re still learning as we grow.
