When someone as young as ten raises over 1 million pounds for charity it’s an incredible feat and one that needs promoting, read Jonjo’s story and be inspired by him. BritMums wish him luck at the SOLA awards tonight.
10-year-old Jonjo Heuerman, from Kent, has been made a finalist at The Spirit of London Awards. Now in its 4th Year the prestigious Spirit of London Awards (SOLA) takes place on the 10th December at The O2. The aim of SOLA is to demonstrate to young people just how much their positive endeavours matter and how much they are valued.
It is Jonjo’s on-going campaigning for The Bobby Moore Fund that has caught the attention of the awards, with his fantastic work and efforts making him a finalist for the National Campaigner of the Year Award, sponsored by PlayStation.
Jonjo’s campaigning began after he lost his Nan, Lyn to bowel cancer 3 years ago, he knew that Bobby Moore had died of the same disease and decided to start raising money for The Bobby Moore Fund as part of Cancer Research UK. So far Jonjo has generated over £1m in funds through his charity walks including from Wembley Stadium to West Ham United, which was 27 miles. Jonjo has appeared on TV a number of times generating much needed awareness about bowel cancer. In 2013, for the 20th anniversary year of Bobby’s death, Jonjo will be organising a tag team to travel to all 92 professional football clubs in around the UK. Jonjo’s evident passion and dedication to the cause are the reasons why he has received such great recognition for the work that he carries out, and we would like to wish Jonjo the very best of luck for Monday and with all of his future fundraising endeavours.
Jonjo says,
‘It really means the world to me to be a finalist for SOLA 2012 and I am very excited. Being a finalist is helping me raise more awareness for bowel cancer to and that is hopefully helping save more lives’.
