The topic of how bloggers use Pinterest packed a room at BritMums Live this year. Melitsa Avila (@playactivities) led the discussion and now she’s created a fantastic, easy-to-follow how-to video. It’s essential viewing if you’re new to Pinterest, and a great review of what you should be doing if you’re more experienced on the platform. Melitsa explains:
Getting started on Pinterest is pretty quick and easy. You probably whizzed through the process of setup and have been pinning. However something is just not right. Pinterest is a community outlet and it works so well because we view each others stuff, repin it and add new pins. But if we’re pinning into a void it’s not much fun. We need to attract followers and follow people too to truly experience Pinterest.
During the Britmums live conference one of the biggest take aways as a speaker and moderator on the Pinterest panel was the sense of overwhelm and not knowing what to do next after the initial setup. There are so many different directions to go and whether you are pinning for fun, for traffic or business we need to secure our foundations. We do need a strategy for using Pinterest and we need to focus our time, losing hours to Pinterest maybe fun but it’s not productive.
Here’s the bottom line, if people see and like your pins they’ll want to follow you whether you are doing it for fun or for anything else. Do you have your house in order when they come to visit?

I agree. A little forethought and housecleaning can make your Pinterest boards appealing. :) Found and followed your parenting boards. I pin play related activities for kids and try to keep my boards clean and fun. :)
