How to use Instagram: one fan’s advice
Tim Malbon of Made by Many is a prolific Instagram user (malbonster), sharing pictures of landscapes, interesting architecture, city scenes and the occasional cat that are compulsively enjoyable. Instagram is the iPhone app that lets you take pictures, add cool filters to tweak the look, then add it to your Instagram feed, your Facebook page and Twitter stream.

Here, he shares his tips for getting the most out of it. Tim says:
It’s great to experiment – follow a few really great people and see what kind of companion processing apps they are using – and try them out. It’s great to try them out in public. I’m fascinated by the amount of creative power that Instagram has, *plus* the vast number of processing apps that exist. I wrote a few of blog posts about this when I first fell in love with IG, which contain a bunch of thoughts:
In general, I think Instragram offers a new way of seeing the world. I love it as a creative tool – I used to paint landscapes (badly), and now I use IG as a tool to paint what I feel (it’s easier to produce something that doesn’t look as bad as my painting).
But of course it’s more than that, and the second thing I love about it is it’s about a social way of seeing – a shared vision, or shared visions. If we actually HAD extra-sensory perception and were able to share thoughts I feel sure that they would be images — so in a way this is digitally mediated form of ESP, a super-power.
Haven’t tried it yet? The only way to learn is to copy people who are good at things and try stuff out. Instagram makes this very easy. That’s how I roll.

I LOVE instagram, and am really getting into the whole "iphoneography" thing.

As the quote says "The best camera you have is the one you have with you". I have taken so many photos with my iphone recently which I would have missed previously as I would have thought I needed my DSLR. The quality of the images is impressive, and it makes blogging so much easier, as I always have an image to illustrate my post.

The social interaction is fun too - I share each instagram pic on my twitter feed and facebook page too. I have even created a new blog just for my iphone pics!

I'm Janmary on Instagram by the way - feel free to follow me :)
