Earlier this week, I wrote for BritMums asking if you support the Saatchi Medical Innovation Bill. It gets its second reading in the House of Commons tomorrow and, in a last-minute change since I wrote that post, Lord Maurice Saatchi, who developed the Bill after his wife died of cancer, is meeting Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt today to discuss it. If you’ve been reading all the fabulous posts by all the bloggers that are backing the Bill and want to show your support in some way, there’s still time to send a tweet to David Cameron and Jeremy Hunt to show them exactly how many people back the Bill.
This week also marks Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) awareness week. Fi from Childcare is Fun has written about how she has OCD and has lived with it for more than 20 years.
Over at Mother’s Always Right, Molly has written a touching post about her daughter’s hypermobility. For some parents, seeing their child playing on their scooter may not be a big deal, but for Molly and Frog it’s huge. There’s a lovely little video to watch too, which I defy you not to smile at.
Meanwhile on Northern Mum, Jane tells us why we should burn forward-facing baby carriers. It’s an issue she’s passionate about after seeing one of her children diagnosed with hip dysplasia.
Now, are you aware of Ask.fm? It’s been in the news over the last month or so amid claims that cyberbullying on the site (by users not the company itself) is responsible for a number of teenage suicides. Maddie from Gammon and Chips knows someone personally whose daughter took her own life, apparently due to bullying (including online) and is part of a campaign to tackle the issue of cyberbullying. As well as a petition to shut down Ask.fm, they’re encouraging parents to talk to their children about the issue and to monitor what they’re doing online. You can read Maddie’s story behind all of this on her blog.
On a much lighter note, the brand Oral B has launched a campaign to love your gums (and is this month’s BritMums linky challenge). It’s surprising how many people will get gum disease and for women during pregnancy, it’s especially prevalent. You can read some advice from Oral B’s ‘Smile Director’, Dr Uchenna Okoye, here on BritMums and there are a whole host of posts that have been linked up so far. Do keep them coming!
The campaign follows Oral Health Month last month. In my last round-up I highlighted posts written by myself (on both Chez Mummy and Working Parents United) and Honest Mum. Bianca at Richmond Mummy has also contributed to the awareness-raising, blogging about her dentist phobia and the seven recommended steps for a brighter smile.
And finally, I got to enjoy an afternoon with Emma Bunton a few weeks ago (yes, I know – squeee! She really is that lovely in real life too). I was part of a group of bloggers including Dear Beautiful, Cafe Bebe, A Baby on Board, Kip Hakes and Me The Man And The Baby who went along to hear about the work that Pampers and UNICEF are doing to tackle maternal and newborn tetanus in the developing world, and of which Emma is a staunch supporter. You can read about my afternoon with a Spice Girl on Chez Mummy as well as When Kip met Emma on Kip’s blog (obviously!)
So that’s it – until next time folks! If you write a health-related blog post in the meantime, give me a nudge on twitter or G+ and I’ll head over, give it a read and consider it for the next round-up.
