What is the research?

Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences at the University of Oxford want to know what is important to you re: body weight and obesity. The researchers would like to know what you think are the important unanswered research questions that they should be working on in order to find out more about this topic and come up with some useful answers. By telling them your ideas and opinions in this short survey you could directly help shape the future of academic research on body weight and obesity.

What would you like to see priortised?

They are interested in any question related to body weight and health, this might include the effect of genes, metabolism, emotions or the influence of the kind of society we live in.

Maybe it is the experience of people living with obesity and the struggles some face?

Is it important to learn more about the causes or effects of obesity in other countries? Or the effect of genes or our metabolism on weight control?

Should they try to understand more about the links between particular diseases and excess body weight or the effects of losing weight?

Or prioritise research to help people with obesity feel better about themselves? Or should we find ways to help people lose weight?

Please share thoughts about these or any other questions which matter most to you.

How it works

In survey 1 you will be asked to write down what you think the most important unanswered research questions on weight control and obesity are. Your replies will be grouped into research questions and themes. Then in a second survey you will have the opportunity to rank the themes in order of importance to you. Your feedback will be combined with feedback from the public, researchers, doctors and nurses, and policy makers. From this a top 10 list of research questions will be drawn up which will be shared with research funders and researchers themselves to focus research on what matters most to us all.

The surveys are short and will not take up much of your time. Your opinions and ideas could help shape the future of academic research on body weight and obesity.

No background knowledge is required to fill out the surveys.
