Kate Michaels is the author of C’est La Vie, a new blog that documents her hectic but loveable lifestyle. A harassed mother of three referred to as the ‘Three Little Rascals’, wife of one and daughter of her mam. Two of the Three Little Rascals have disabilities and the other is too young to get any information on the situation. Easter presents a whole new challenge to her read on to find out more.
And so it begins…the whole, how quick can you eat your chocolate eggs….and why is it wrong for mum and dad to get them?
Having three children, as those in a similar family situation to me know, you are suddenly inundated with chocolate eggs, they are everywhere! Everyone, bless their hearts, want to give your cute offspring the caffeine containing sweet treat, just to make sure that you definitely don’t get any peace and quiet at all. (it shows in their smile when they hand them over).
I caught one visitor frowning at me as I popped some chocolate into my own mouth.
“That’s for the kids, that is…parents always greed the eggs” she quietly muttered.
But each and every one of these people get a lovely thank you note from my offspring (not from me).
My friend rang me late on Sunday night.
“Are they in bed? Can you talk?”
Said pal has no children and as I hesitated, listening to First Born Rascal reciting the entire days worth of Mickey Mouse shows to himself, Second Born Rascal humming twinkle twinkle loudly in his bed and Third Born Rascal testing his vocal cords to see just how loudly he could yell.
“Yes, have been for hours, go on” I replied. Which wasn’t actually a lie.
In our madhouse we have bedtime starting from six. As First Born Rascal has Autistic Spectrum Disorder, it’s imperative that this routine is adhered to, or else….it turns into a nightmare scenario of naughtiness, and unfortunately for the other two, as First Born Rascal is the eldest (obviously!) they must go first. How may years can I keep the peace like this!
My lifestyle is hectic. To put it mildly. Also, with Second Born Rascal showing autistic traits…my word, here’s hoping Third Born Rascal can progress nicely!
So, after Easter Sunday, when we allowed our Three Little Rascals to eat chocolate for breakfast (fools!, fools!), to First Born Rascal, this is how life was going to be!
Breakfast time has arrived over the last couple of days to turned up noses.
“Where’s chocolate?” Asked First Born
“Ngoc Ngoc” repeated Second born and swiftly with one sweep of the right arm, the toast few into the air and landed butter side down on my freshly washed floor.
No! No chocolate, cereal and toast today,” the pair of eyes just looked blankly at me
“No! Cereal and toast” I repeated, turning my back and putting more bread in the toaster. The silence said it all, I turned around to find them staring sullenly at me.
Well, after having much wine the night before, a chocolate- or- breakfast argument was not what I wanted, needed or was physically ready for, so out came the chocolate eggs.
I know I now have this fight for a good few mornings now….
So, my utility room is stacked to the rafters with chocolate eggs, my fridge is full of the sweet stuff and there’s a few on my kitchen benches too, I’m thinking of setting up some kind of year long Easter Egg supply centre.
But I think at the rate that my Three Little Rascals are going through them (and naughty mammy and daddy) I’d be out of stock pretty soon!
