Good Reads: Scrotum piercing, cute babies and twitter addicts

Hello. Me again. Sorry bout that. So, it seems that Good Reads is getting a lot of good press right now, (I didn’t even have to pay people to say they’re enjoying it,) it’s great to hear that people are enjoying finding new and interesting blogs and I’ll continue to do my best to keep finding these little gems for you.

My week so far has been full of Cuppa Soup, damp, grey mornings and daydreams of Lake Garda. Hope your week is just as … weird.

And, they’re off … first up is a great post from Heidi at One Feisty Mama called, ‘Out with the old … in with the new perspective.’ Heidi is a great writer, very witty and never fails to make me laugh, (and I’m a tough audience,) and in this post she admits to not having much to say. Great choice of post then Kate, I hear you say, except in saying ‘nothing’ her small talk is very entertaining. Gutted about Heidi and Seal too. Read the post, it’ll make sense. I think.

A complete change of tone but Amanda at That Nice Woman wrote a very touching post about her teenage son finally being diagnosed with ADHD and Asperger’s Syndrome, in A Glimmer of Light. It’s a very poignant story about how it’s taken 13 years to diagnose her son and their journey has been a very difficult one. It might be strange to hear that she’s happy that she’s finally found out that diagnosis but she explains it’s because she now knows she’s not going mad.

I had to feature this post by Slummy Single Mummy purely for the kudos it will bring her teen. When The one where Bee is Hilarious opens with her teen explaining how she read Mum’s latest blog post but, “… it wasn’t that great. I don’t really like it when you try to be serious,” you just know that Mum will always have the last word. And she totally does.

Gemma from Hello It’s Gemma is a beautiful writer, and I thought it was about time I featured another one of her posts. Keep Calm and Believe is about the pressure she feels right now – something I can totally relate to. Life has a habit of dishing out ‘challenges,’ shall we say, and Gemma’s advice of making small changes to redress the balance is very wise for someone so amazingly young!

When you see a blog post called, Australia: Don’t Fuck Up and Die (aka Helping Tourism. Maybe,) you know you’re just going to have to read it. I’ve been to Australia, loved it and dream of going back one day. I’d preferably prefer not to die while I’m out there so thanks Rachel from This Mid 30s Life – you’re a life saver … literally. Note to self: don’t threaten a snake by calling it ‘punk’ or ‘bitch.’

Keith from Chronicles of a Reluctant Housedad has guest posted over at Stay at Home Mum Loving It this week, talking about scrotum piercing in his post Anniversary. Well, I’m paraphrasing somewhat, but Keith is actually talking about how he found himself in the position of being a housedad and how he’s learnt to love it. The scrotum bit… not so much.

The clue’s in the title in Mostly Yummy Mummy’s post, I Bloody Love Twitter But … and as a fellow addict, when life permits, this gets my back up too – being asked to re-tweet something. If we want to re-tweet it, we will. Don’t ask! Grrr. And as MYM rightly points out, by shouting in big, shouty capitals, “MY PET DONKEY ONLY HAS ONE EAR. PLEASE RT THIS TO RAISE AWARENESS OF THIS TERRIBLE DISEASE,” you’re only going to get blocked. And breathe …

Best blog name this week goes to Jules from I Need Curtains for the Window In My Head. The shakeup of the benefits system has been in the press a lot lately and people on benefits always seem to get a bad press. In Tar Brush, Jules talks openly about her situation and how tough it is… people like to judge but you never know what someone’s life is like until you walk in their shoes.

Emergency cute baby alert!!! Karin from Café Bebe writes, Pregnant Again? Are you Kidding Me? She’s not, I don’t think, but isn’t it fun when someone thinks you’re pregnant and you’re not?! No. No it isn’t. But we’ve all been there. Besides, Sam is just so damn cute I want to squish his little cheeks all up!

And finally, one of my favourite blog posts this month. Laura from Are We Nearly There Yet Mummy? is as wonderfully mad as a box of frogs – My Daddy Is Married to a Lunatic kinda sums it up. The Beast of January has visited Laura (not to be confused with the Beast of Bodmin,) and … well, just read it – it’s fab.

OK, over and out for now. I’ve just eaten roast chicken and apple crumple (not together,) so need a long lie down in a dark room. Until next week!
