Right, tissues at the ready … because today’s Good Reads is going to be my last one for BritMums. I’m going to be moving onto pastures new and that will all be announced next week, but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with BritMums and I’m really looking forward to speaking at BritMums Live! Hope to see you all there.
This week has been a real rollercoaster. Literally and metaphorically. Legoland and heartbreaking handovers of my son to my ex meant that my stomach has been in knots all week! However, it’s nothing a few gins didn’t sort out.
Onwards and upwards … and here are my choices of favourite blog posts over the last two weeks.
First up, Kate from Katie and the Kids is talking sex. Nice! Having been married eleven years to the very lovely Mr KATD (I’ve met him so am allowed to judge comment,) Kate makes the point that it’s not just men that like sex – women do too. We don’t always need hearts and flowers and as much as a romantic weekend away is nice, so is a dirty one. Couldn’t have said it better myself!
Next, is Jo from Dexterous Diva. I’ve been a lurker of her blog for a while now (*stalker alert*) and thought it about time she got a mention. A post I can relate to is Between the Gaps. As a fellow Endometriosis sufferer, I know how debilitating the illness has been for me in the past and Jo makes a valid point – ‘the difficulty of empathy is that to the outside world life can look full, vibrant, NORMAL. But the gaps are the unseen bits …’
One half of Mummy Central (no idea which one,) wrote about Slipping up on Sports Day. Now, laughing at people falling over is SO immature … and I’d never do that of course, but let’s just say it was a good job I wasn’t at her son’s Sports Day as she took part in the parents’ race at the end. The grass was wet. Nuff said. But massive props to her for finishing!
Next up is a newcomer to BritMums … the name may give it away. Lady Fuckwit is not your ‘typical’ mummy blogger and she tends to cover slightly controversial topics shall we say. I love it! Now, we’re all grown ups right? And most of us know that a little … ahem … self pleasure never hurt anyone (unless you’re doing it wrong,) and Lady F is putting it right out there, (not literally,) in her post about masturbation.
And now to another Lady – this time Lady Curd. She has, (or rather had) lucky socks and I think I may need to get in on that action. Not because they seem to be baby-producing socks (read the post, it’ll make sense,) just because I could really, really do with some luck in my life!
Sonya Cisco is senile. But she’s in great company because I really think I am too. I am brilliant at forgetting where I’ve parked the car and for the love of God, I cannot remember what my kids names are half the time. I do what my Nan did and go through pretty much every name I can remember of anyone I’ve ever met until I get to the right name. Sonya makes milk sandwiches because she forgot to buy bread. High five!
Ali from Over a Cuppa wrote a lovely post about memories. Now I could blatantly lie and pretend I wasn’t old enough to remember the Jubilee in 1977 … but, as youthful as I look (*cough*) I do remember, but for some reason, I didn’t bother with this year’s Jubilee celebrations and I feel a little bad for Dexter. Mind you, we turned on the concert and as soon as he saw it was Robbie Williams and not Will.i.am, he asked me to turn it off. Ali’s memories from her childhood are really quite beautiful.
Molly from Mother’s Always Right wrote a heartwarming post entitled These Moments. A real ‘stop and smell the roses’ reminder that even though life hurtles at breakneck speed sometimes, sometimes it’s the simplest things that can fill us with joy. There are some beautiful pictures of her daughter included – I particularly loved the photo of Freya at the beach eating an apple, with a smattering of sand – simply wonderful.
Keith from Chronicles of a Reluctant Housedad has written Top 10 Tips to get your Kids Excited about Reading. If you’re anything like me, my love of writing actually comes from my love of reading. It was always more than just a hobby – it was a way of life growing up, something I inherited from my Mum and something I hope Dexter inherits from me. Reading rocks.
And finally … Kellie from Big Fashionista. I hearts her I do, and amongst her posts including photos of half naked men (… erm, phwoar …) I found this gem – Are you a Secret Blogger? Well, my blog isn’t a secret – on the contrary, I tell everyone I meet about it … but I don’t think a lot of my family and friends really ‘get it.’ Kellie’s the same, and as she and I get a little … tetchy … when people say, “What, like Carrie Bradshaw?” it would be nice if people understood just how blogging can change your life.
And it has. Maybe not in any massive way, at least not yet … but blogging has brought challenges, excitement, new friends and cake. Lots of cake. And I wouldn’t be without it.
So that’s it … over and out for now. I have every intention, however, of popping up somewhere else real soon and, in the meantime, I’m sure Good Reads will be left in very capable hands.
Laters.
We, at BritMums, would like to thank Kate for being such an outstanding contributor to the BritMums blog for the last 7 months. She’s been a breath of fresh air (and glorious titian hair) and we’ll miss her. Best of luck to you Kate…we’ll be cheering your work on other pastures green! ~BritMums
Ever been picked as one of our Good Reads? Go grab the badge (at the bottom of this page) and wear with pride. You rock!
About Kate Sutton
Kate Sutton is the owner of the wonderfully eclectic lifestyle blog, WitWitWoo. A mother to two boys, she has a knack for making the most banal things much more interesting than they really are. Normally found talking about cake, sausages and Riverdance on Twitter (@iamwitwitwoo) her considerably sized, Titian hair can be seen from satellite. Kate loves to dance, sing (very) badly and laugh a lot. Her fiercely competitive streak has now earnt her the title of world record breaker. She has added this to her existing list of accolades, which include Apprentice interviewee, Smirnoff model and ex-majorette.

Wahey! Thanks for the mention. Might have known my most embarrassing, toe-curling moment in parenting would be a popular read. And yes, it's Donna here. I'm the embarrassing one on Mummy Central. Good luck wherever you're moving on to Kate. Look forward to hearing all about it x
